Macquarie Radio Network’s 2GB and 3AW Number One in Sydney and Melbourne

7 July: Macquarie Radio Network’s (MRN) powerhouse News Talk stations 2GB in Sydney and 3AW in Melbourne have retained their supremacy in the radio ratings, taking out Number One in both markets, according to today’s Gfk Survey 4 results.

MRN’s network of News, Talk, Sport and Music stations have a national reach of more than 2.284 million Australians All People 10+ and a dominant share of more than 1.89 million of the influential All People 40+ age group. The time that MRN’s audience spends listening to its stations continues to be almost double that of the nearest commercial competitor.

Australia’s home of football this season is on the Macquarie network, with the top rating Continuous Call Team of Ray Hadley, Bob Fulton, Darryl “Big Marn” Brohman, David Morrow, Mark Levy, Brett Finch and Mark “Piggy” Riddell bringing all the NRL action to 2GB Sydney and 4BC Brisbane listeners. 3AW in Melbourne and 6PR in Perth have the nation’s best AFL commentary teams including Tim Lane, Tony Leonard, Cameron Ling, Matthew Richardson, Karl Langdon, Brad Hardie and Peter Bell as the footy season heads towards the all-important finals.

2GB has retained its unbroken 11 year reign as Sydney’s most listened to station, with an audience share of 12.8% and is ranked number one in each weekday session. As Melbourne’s most listened to station for 9 years, 3AW continues to dominate with a 12.1% share in the latest survey.

2GB and 3AW enjoyed strong performances in the competitive Breakfast and Morning slots. The Alan Jones Breakfast Show commands a 16% share – his 188th survey win, while 3AW Breakfast team Ross & John’s share was 17.5%, their 108th consecutive survey win in Melbourne.

2GB’s Ray Hadley still holds the Number One position in Mornings in Sydney, with an emphatic win. Hadley’s audience was at 15%. 3AW’s Neil Mitchell has an audience share of 11.4%.

Brisbane News Talk station 4BC continues to support its new line-up since April 2015 resulting in growth in several areas including Mornings with Ray Hadley, Money News with Ross Greenwood and Evenings with Mike Jeffries. A modest increase was seen in one of our key demographics of all people 55-64, resulting in a 6.4% share.

In Perth, News Talk station 6PR’s Breakfast show with Steve Mills and Basil Zempilas delivered a 9.7% share and still leads time spent listening at more than 12 hours per week.

MRN’s music stations of 2CH in Sydney, Magic 1278 in Melbourne and Magic 882 in Brisbane held their key 40+ demographic audiences.
