Over the last three years, Catholic Central’s upperclassmen have turned the football team from a sure win for opponents into one of the Ohio Heritage Conference’s best. Central finished 0-10 in both 2013 and 2014 and lost every game those seasons by an average of 37.6 points ... Now they’re gaining confidence ... 7 ... Allen led the GWOC in passing in the regular season last year and has thrown for 798 yards and six touchdowns so far this season....

We talked about him last week, but Isaiah Bowser deserves another mention. The Sidney running back is having him a season. In the last three weeks the junior has gone for 281, 262, and 276 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns. He’s also a linebacker for the Yellowjackets and last week against Xenia, he took an interception back for a touchdown ... Another good one in the GWOC is Lebanon at Springfield ... ....

Leonard Taylor launched a pass to Davis as time expired, which he caught with pressure from four Centerville defenders to give the Wildcats a 26-20 win in a GWOC National East game ... The Wildcats went backwards on two runs and a broken up pass, and they called a timeout with 1.8 seconds left ... It also puts Springfield in the lead in the GWOC National East race, since no other teams have played a conference game yet....

On the last play of the game, Springfield’s Danny Davis caught a 38-yard touchdown pass along the visitor’s sideline to lift the Wildcats to a 26-20 win in a GWOC National East game. Springfield took the lead late in the fourth when Shane Ramsey intercepted a pass and returned it about 40 yards for a touchdown ... Kyle Schmidt fired off a 65 to help the Lakota East boys golf team win the Firebird Invitational at NCR North on Tuesday. Schmidt took medalist honors. Austin Greaser of Vandalia was the runner-up at 68 and Connor Quigley of Oakwood had a 70. A.J. Cherubini (Centerville), Cameron Luczka (Fairmont), Casey Moore (Piketon) and Holden Scribner (Troy) each had a 71 ... Anna 168, Botkins 214 ... Girls Golf ... Boys Soccer: Butler handles Tecumseh 6-2

Tecumseh had a chance to snap a losing streak in a nonconference boys soccer match on Saturday, but after a rocky start, Butler regrouped and put the game away in the second half in a 6-2 win. The two team’s seasons are going in opposite directions. The Aviators’ win improved their record to 4-1-1, while Tecumseh dropped to 0-3-1 ... Every GWOC American North team has a winning record ... “It’s very encouraging the way we’ve started.”....
