Mosul (/moʊˈsuːl/; Arabic: الموصل – al-Mawṣil (local pronunciation: el-Mōṣul); Syriac: ܢܝܢܘܐ – Nînwe; Kurdish: مووسڵ – Mûsil) is a city of normally about two and a half million people (2014 est.) in northern Iraq, illegally occupied since 10 June 2014 by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
Mosul is completely ruled by the Islamic State terror group headquartered in Al-Raqqah, Syria. The legitimate government of Iraq stopped paying salaries soon after the city was overrun by militants. (that ISIL allegedly exploited by stealing a generous percentage) which it had previously paid to city workers including nurses, doctors,
Located some 400 km (250 mi) north of Baghdad, the original city stands on the west bank of the Tigris River, opposite the ancient Assyrian city of Nineveh on the east bank, but the metropolitan area has grown to encompass substantial areas on both the "Left Coast" (east side) and the "Right Coast" (west side) as the two banks are described in the local language.
A war diary is a regularly updated official record kept by military units of their activities during wartime. The purpose of these diaries is to both record information which can later be used by the military to improve its training and tactics as well as to generate a detailed record of units' activities for future use by historians. War diaries are focused on the administration and operations of the unit they cover, and generally do not contain information about individual personnel.
War diaries were invented by the Prussian Army. On 22 April 1850, the Prussian Minister of War, August von Stockhausen, ordered that all commanders of major units should keep war diaries. All significant military actions, relocations, important messages and orders, casualties, material losses, reinforcements etc. were to be recorded. Subsequent regulations of 1870, 1895, 1916 and 1940 were largely identical to the 1850 regulations.
The British Army first required that its units keep war diaries in 1907 as a means of preventing its mistakes of the Second Boer War from being repeated, and units currently operating in Afghanistan continue to maintain such diaries. The war diaries kept by Australian military units are normally maintained by the unit's adjutant or intelligence officer and contain a regularly updated narrative of its activities as well as copies of reports, messages received and maps.
Islamic state is a type of government based on Islamic religious law (sharia).
Islamic state may also refer to:
The Mosul offensive (2015) was an offensive launched by Kurdish Peshmerga forces on 21 January 2015, with the objective of severing key ISIL supply routes to Mosul, Iraq, and to recapture neighboring areas around Mosul. The effort was supported by US-led coalition airstrikes. The Iraqi Army was widely expected to launch the planned operation to retake the actual city of Mosul in the Spring of 2015, but the offensive was postponed to June 2016 after Ramadi fell to ISIL in May 2015.
Ever since the city of Mosul fell to ISIL forces on 10 June 2014, the United States and the Iraqi Government had been planning to retake the city. Initially, the original plan called for an assault on Mosul in July or August 2015, even though some US officials claimed that an attack at that point would be "too late." On December 25, 2014, after Hassan Saeed Al-Jabouri, the ISIL governor of Mosul, was killed by a US-led Coalition airstrike in Mosul, it was revealed that the US planned to retake the city of Mosul in January 2015. In late January 2015, Iraqi Army forces began preparing for the assault on Mosul.

(20 Mar 2017) Iraqi forces battling Islamic State group (IS) militants in Mosul continued their approach on the mosque where the leader of the extremist group declared its self-styled caliphate in the summer of 2014. As the advance proceeded on Monday, Iraq's ERD (Emergency Response Division, also known as Rapid Response Forces) used IRAM rocket launchers against militant positions near the Old City. Iraq launched a massive operation in October to retake Mosul, its second largest city and the IS group's last major urban bastion in the country. It declared eastern Mosul "fully liberated" in January and troops are now locked in a fierce battle for the city's more densely populated western half. It had been a difficult day in Mosul. We had brought food for thousands of families who had been starved by ISIS. We’d picked through airstrike wreckage, seen the bodies of killed ISIS fighters, heard and felt and seen the battles of this god-forsaken war, heard stories of untold suffering... And now, we were standing in this bombed out, burned up church, when our Muslim friend Waleed called us over to see something that took our breath away. Waleed was still gaping upward. “See? Look up… they missed it.” http://preemptivelove.org/mosul

The UN fears up to 800 thousand civilians are still trapped in the ISIS-held part of Mosul, where the anti-terror operation is now raging. A similar situation was seen in neighbouring Syria a couple of months ago. Back then though, the UN raised concerns over the fate of a hundred thousand people in Eastern Aleppo, as Syrian forces tried to retake it from Al-Nusra terrorists. Hello, sunshine, hello, good times,
Goodbye, heartache, love is here again.
Hello, sunshine, now you're all mine,
Shining on me and let our world begin.
Before today our life was upside down
And full with disobey.
Now I feel emotions that I can't explain,
I am not the same, you turn out a light in me
And love is here to stay.
Hello, sunshine, hello, good times,
Goodbye, heartache, love is here again.
Hello, sunshine, now you're all mine,
Shining on me and let our world begin.
Before today my heart could not be found,
And you were on your way.
Now I'm seeing something that I can't explain,
Nothing feels the same,
You brought back the life in me
And love is here to stay.
Hello, sunshine, hello, good times,
Goodbye, heartache, love is here again.

Shining on me and let our world begin.
