This speech is called "Imagine" and it was given by Ron Paul on March 11, 2009. The original text of the talk is below:
Imagine for a moment that somewhere in the middle of Texas there was a large foreign military base, say Chinese or Russian. Imagine that thousands of armed foreign troops were constantly patrolling American streets in military vehicles. Imagine they were here under the auspices of "keeping us safe" or "promoting democracy" or "protecting their strategic interests."
Imagine that they operated outside of US law, and that the Constitution did not apply to them. Imagine that every now and then they made mistakes or acted on bad information and accidentally killed or terrorized innocent Americans, including women and children, most of the time with little to no repercussions or consequences. Imagine that they set up checkpoints on our soil and routinely searched and ransacked entire neighborhoods of homes. Imagine if Americans were fearful of these foreign troops, and overwhelmingly thought America would be better off without their presence.
Imagine if some Americans were so angry about them being in Texas that they actually joined together to fight them off, in defense of our soil and sovereignty, because leadership in government refused or were unable to do so. Imagine that those Americans were labeled terrorists or insurgents for their defensive actions, and routinely killed, or captured and tortured by the foreign troops on our land. Imagine that the occupiers' attitude was that if they just killed enough Americans, the resistance would stop, but instead, for every American killed, ten more would take up arms against them, resulting in perpetual bloodshed. Imagine if most of the citizens of the foreign land also wanted these troops to return home. Imagine if they elected a leader who promised to bring them home and put an end to this horror.
Imagine if that leader changed his mind once he took office.
The reality is that our military presence on foreign soil is as offensive to the people that live there as armed Chinese troops would be if they were stationed in Texas. We would not stand for it here, but we have had a globe-straddling empire and a very intrusive foreign policy for decades that incites a lot of hatred and resentment towards us.
According to our own CIA, our meddling in the Middle East was the prime motivation for the horrific attacks on 9/11. But instead of re-evaluating our foreign policy, we have simply escalated it. We had a right to go after those responsible for 9/11, to be sure, but why do so many Americans feel as if we have a right to a military presence in some 160 countries when we wouldn't stand for even one foreign base on our soil, for any reason? These are not embassies, mind you, these are military installations. The new administration is not materially changing anything about this. Shuffling troops around and playing with semantics does not accomplish the goals of the American people, who simply want our men and women to come home. 50,000 troops left behind in Iraq is not conducive to peace any more than 50,000 Russian soldiers would be in the United States.
Shutting down military bases and ceasing to deal with other nations with threats and violence is not isolationism. It is the opposite. Opening ourselves up to friendship, honest trade and diplomacy is the foreign policy of peace and prosperity. It is the only foreign policy that will not bankrupt us in short order, as our current actions most definitely will. I share the disappointment of the American people in the foreign policy rhetoric coming from the administration. The sad thing is, our foreign policy WILL change eventually, as Rome's did, when all budgetary and monetary tricks to fund it are exhausted.

Johnston Atoll, also known as Kalama Atoll to Native Hawaiians, is an unincorporated territory of the United States currently administered by the United States Air Force (USAF) of the United States Department of Defense. The islands are visited annually by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Public entry is only by special-use permit from the United States Air Force.
For nearly 70 years, the atoll was under the control of the American military. In that time it was used as a bird sanctuary, as a naval refueling depot, as an airbase, for nuclear and biological weapons testing, for space recovery, as a secret missile base, and as a chemical weapon and Agent Orange storage and disposal site. STORYLINE:
Kyrgyzstan's president said on Tuesday that his country was ending the US use of an air base that has been key to military operations in Afghanistan, Russian news agencies reported.
The decision to end the US use of Manas, just outside the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek, could have potentially far-reaching consequences for US and NATO operations in Afghanistan.
Interfax and RIA-Novosti quoted Kurmanbek Bakiyev, on a visit to Moscow, as making the statement just minutes after Russia announced it was providing the poor Central Asian nation with billions (b) of US dollars in aid.
General David Petraeus, commander of US forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, said during a trip to Central Asia last month that Manas air base would be key to plans to boost US troop presence in Afghanistan by up to 30,000 soldiers in the coming months.
The Kyrgyz government "made a decision on ending the term for the American military base on the territory of Kyrgyzstan" Bakiyev said during a news conference with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Kyrgyz government officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
The US Embassy in Kyrgyzstan said a press briefing was scheduled for Wednesday morning.
Officials with US Central Command also said they were unable to comment.
The United States set up the Manas base in Kyrgyzstan and a base in neighbouring Uzbekistan after the attacks of September 11 2001 to back operations in Afghanistan.
Uzbekistan expelled US troops from the base on its territory in 2005 in a dispute over human rights issues, leaving Manas as the only US.military facility in the region.
Russia has long been suspicious of the US presence in what it considers its strategic backyard and agreed on Tuesday to provide Kyrgyzstan with two (b) billion US dollars in loans plus another 150 (m) million in financial aid.
Russia also uses a military airbase at Kant, Kyrgyzstan.
The United States currently pumps a total of 150 (m) million US dollars into Kyrgyzstan's economy annually, including 63 (m) million in rent for Manas, Petraeus said last month.
Bakiyev said Kyrgyzstan had "discussed with our American partners the subject of the economic compensation to Kyryzstan for the presence (of the US air base), but unfortunately, we did not find an understanding from the United States."

Relations between the U.S. and Pakistan have hit a new low, after a top American military chief accused Pakistan's Intelligence service of supporting a group behind last week's attack on the American Embassy in Kabul. Islamabad has strongly denied the claims. One of the stumbling blocks in U.S- Pakistan relations is that American drone attacks on al-Qaeda operatives on Pakistani territory continually resulted in civilian deaths. However, the U.S. military considers them so effective that it is building a number of new drone bases in Horn of Africa and the Arabian peninsula. But as RT's Gayane Chichakyan reports, this policy has caught America in a vicious circle.

Americas worst nightmare potentially just got the green light. The blue helmets of the UN are coming to police the streets of the USA. Foreign Military is now allowed to police the streets, arrest, and use force in combat.
In May 2016, the USA approved a set of principles that give the green light for UN peacekeeping troops AND POLICE to use force to “protect” citizens in armed conflicts, but the agreement does not specify exactly where. The Blue Helmets are coming, and the American police force could now be a part of a global police force.

Hundreds of protesters in Manila formed a human chain which stretched part of the way between the U-S embassy and the Philippine Senate on Wednesday.
The protestors attempted to form a three-kilometre (one-point-five mile) chain between the two buildings to oppose a military agreement that would allow U-S troops to train in the country.
As the Philippines Senate launched a debate on whether to approve a deal to allow American soldiers to train on Filipino soil, hundreds of protesters converged on the capital to vent their opposition to the idea.
Last year both countries signed the deal, which needs Senate approval to go into affect.
The Visiting Forces Agreement would give the United States legal jurisdiction over U-S soldiers who commit crimes while on duty in the Philippines.
The Philippines would have jurisdiction over crimes committed while off duty.
Before 1996 a legal loophole shielded U-S military personnel from local prosecution.
And critics say the new deal would continue limit the Philippine government's right to prosecute American soldiers.
They're also worried about a rise in prostitution and the spread of sexually transmitted disease, two problems that grew up around the former U-S navy base in the Philippines' Subic Bay.
The activists, who were mostly women, held a rope strung with anti-American posters along one side of a busy boulevard.
But they were unable to cobble together enough protesters to span the entire stretch between the embassy and Senate.
At one end of the chain, near the U-S Embassy, protest leaders tried to set up tents on a lawn but riot policemen arrived and dismantled the tents without arresting anyone.
The Philippine government has recently stepped up its campaign to gather public support for the agreement ahead of the Senate vote later this month.
President Joseph Estrada says the country needs the agreement and a close military alliance with the United States because of the Philippines' poorly equipped armed forces.
More than two-thirds of the Senators are expected to vote in favour of the agreement later this month.
That would pave the way for large-scale U-S Philippine military exercises to begin again after being suspended three years ago.
The United States halted major exercises in the Philippines and visits by U-S Navy vessels in December 1996.
Military ties with the United States -- which ruled the Philippines for nearly half a century -- have remained a sensitive topic since the Philippine Senate forced the closure of the last U-S base in 1992.

Military base
A military base is a facility directly owned and operated by or for the military or one of its branches that shelters military equipment and personnel, and facilitates training and operations. In general, a military base provides accommodations for one or more units, but it may also be used as a command center, a training ground, or a proving ground. In most cases, a military base relies on some outside help in order to operate. However, certain complex bases are able to endure by themselves for long periods because they are able to provide food, water and other life support necessities for their inhabitants while under siege.
The military sense of the term base dates from the 1860s.
Jurisdictional definition
Bases are usually extra-legal jurisdictions not subject to civil law. They can range from small outposts to military cities containing up to 100,000 people. Some military bases may belong to a different nation or state than the territory surrounding it.

The name used generally refers to the type of military activity that takes place at the base.

United States Armed Forces
The United States Armed Forces are the federal military forces of the United States. They consist of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The President of the United States is the military's overall head, and helps form military policy with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), a federal executive department, acting as the principal organ by which military policy is carried out.

Diplomatic mission

The original text of the talk is below: Imagine for a moment that somewhere in the middle of Texas there was a large foreign military base, say Chinese or Russian. Imagine that thousands of armed foreign troops were constantly patrolling American streets in military vehicles. Imagine they were here under the auspices of "keeping us safe" or "promoting democracy" or "protecting their strategic interests." Imagine that they operated outside of US law, and that the Constitution did not apply to them. Imagine that every now and then they made mistakes or acted on bad information and accidentally killed or terrorized innocent Americans, including women and children, most of the time with little to no repercussions or consequences. Imagine that they set up checkpoints on our soil and routinely searched and ransacked entire neighborhoods of homes. Imagine if Americans were fearful of these foreign troops, and overwhelmingly thought America would be better off without their presence. Imagine if some Americans were so angry about them being in Texas that they actually joined together to fight them off, in defense of our soil and sovereignty, because leadership in government refused or were unable to do so. Imagine that those Americans were labeled terrorists or insurgents for their defensive actions, and routinely killed, or captured and tortured by the foreign troops on our land. Imagine that the occupiers' attitude was that if they just killed enough Americans, the resistance would stop, but instead, for every American killed, ten more would take up arms against them, resulting in perpetual bloodshed. Imagine if most of the citizens of the foreign land also wanted these troops to return home. Imagine if they elected a leader who promised to bring them home and put an end to this horror. Imagine if that leader changed his mind once he took office. The reality is that our military presence on foreign soil is as offensive to the people that live there as armed Chinese troops would be if they were stationed in Texas. We would not stand for it here, but we have had a globe-straddling empire and a very intrusive foreign policy for decades that incites a lot of hatred and resentment towards us. According to our own CIA, our meddling in the Middle East was the prime motivation for the horrific attacks on 9/11. But instead of re-evaluating our foreign policy, we have simply escalated it. We had a right to go after those responsible for 9/11, to be sure, but why do so many Americans feel as if we have a right to a military presence in some 160 countries when we wouldn't stand for even one foreign base on our soil, for any reason? These are not embassies, mind you, these are military installations. The new administration is not materially changing anything about this. Shuffling troops around and playing with semantics does not accomplish the goals of the American people, who simply want our men and women to come home. 50,000 troops left behind in Iraq is not conducive to peace any more than 50,000 Russian soldiers would be in the United States. Shutting down military bases and ceasing to deal with other nations with threats and violence is not isolationism. It is the opposite. Opening ourselves up to friendship, honest trade and diplomacy is the foreign policy of peace and prosperity. It is the only foreign policy that will not bankrupt us in short order, as our current actions most definitely will. I share the disappointment of the American people in the foreign policy rhetoric coming from the administration. The sad thing is, our foreign policy WILL change eventually, as Rome's did, when all budgetary and monetary tricks to fund it are exhausted. General David Petraeus, commander of US forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, said during a trip to Central Asia last month that Manas air base would be key to plans to boost US troop presence in Afghanistan by up to 30,000 soldiers in the coming months. The Kyrgyz government "made a decision on ending the term for the American military base on the territory of Kyrgyzstan" Bakiyev said during a news conference with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Kyrgyz government officials could not be immediately reached for comment. The US Embassy in Kyrgyzstan said a press briefing was scheduled for Wednesday morning. The United States set up the Manas base in Kyrgyzstan and a base in neighbouring Uzbekistan after the attacks of September 11 2001 to back operations in Afghanistan. Natural Sound Hundreds of protesters in Manila formed a human chain which stretched part of the way between the U-S embassy and the Philippine Senate on Wednesday. The protestors attempted to form a three-kilometre (one-point-five mile) chain between the two buildings to oppose a military agreement that would allow U-S troops to train in the country. As the Philippines Senate launched a debate on whether to approve a deal to allow American soldiers to train on Filipino soil, hundreds of protesters converged on the capital to vent their opposition to the idea. Last year both countries signed the deal, which needs Senate approval to go into affect. The Visiting Forces Agreement would give the United States legal jurisdiction over U-S soldiers who commit crimes while on duty in the Philippines. The Philippines would have jurisdiction over crimes committed while off duty. Before 1996 a legal loophole shielded U-S military personnel from local prosecution. And critics say the new deal would continue limit the Philippine government's right to prosecute American soldiers. They're also worried about a rise in prostitution and the spread of sexually transmitted disease, two problems that grew up around the former U-S navy base in the Philippines' Subic Bay. The activists, who were mostly women, held a rope strung with anti-American posters along one side of a busy boulevard. But they were unable to cobble together enough protesters to span the entire stretch between the embassy and Senate. At one end of the chain, near the U-S Embassy, protest leaders tried to set up tents on a lawn but riot policemen arrived and dismantled the tents without arresting anyone. The Philippine government has recently stepped up its campaign to gather public support for the agreement ahead of the Senate vote later this month. President Joseph Estrada says the country needs the agreement and a close military alliance with the United States because of the Philippines' poorly equipped armed forces. More than two-thirds of the Senators are expected to vote in favour of the agreement later this month. That would pave the way for large-scale U-S Philippine military exercises to begin again after being suspended three years ago. The United States halted major exercises in the Philippines and visits by U-S Navy vessels in December 1996. Military ties with the United States -- which ruled the Philippines for nearly half a century -- have remained a sensitive topic since the Philippine Senate forced the closure of the last U-S base in 1992. Wings of Death: US builds global drone base net
Relations between the U.S. and Pakistan have hit a new low, after a top American military chief accused Pakistan's Intelligence service of supporting a group behind last week's attack on the American Embassy in Kabul. Islamabad has strongly denied the claims. One of the stumbling blocks in U.S- Pakistan relations is that American drone attacks on al-Qaeda operatives on Pakistani territory continually resulted in civilian deaths. However, the U.S. military considers them so effective that it is building a number of new drone bases in Horn of Africa and the Arabian peninsula. Did the US just agree to allow the Foreign Troops within the UN to Police the Streets of the USA?
Americas worst nightmare potentially just got the green light. The blue helmets of the UN are coming to police the streets of the USA. Foreign Military is now allowed to police the streets, arrest, and use force in combat. In May 2016, the USA approved a set of principles that give the green light for UN peacekeeping troops AND POLICE to use force to “protect” citizens in armed conflicts, but the agreement does not specify exactly where. PHILIPPINES: PROTESTS AGAINST MILITARY AGREEMENT WITH US
Natural Sound Hundreds of protesters in Manila formed a human chain which stretched part of the way between the U-S embassy and the Philippine Senate on Wednesday. The protestors attempted to form a three-kilometre (one-point-five mile) chain between the two buildings to oppose a military agreement that would allow U-S troops to train in the country. As the Philippines Senate launched a debate on whether to approve a deal to allow American soldiers to train on Filipino soil, hundreds of protesters converged on the capital to vent their opposition to the idea. Imagine that they set up checkpoints on our soil and routinely searched and ransacked entire neighborhoods of homes. Imagine if Americans were fearful of these foreign troops, and overwhelmingly thought America would be better off without their presence.
Imagine if some Americans were so angry about them being in Texas that they actually joined together to fight them off, in defense of our soil and sovereignty, because leadership in government refused or were unable to do so. Imagine that those Americans were labeled terrorists or insurgents for their defensive actions, and routinely killed, or captured and tortured by the foreign troops on our land. Imagine that the occupiers' attitude was that if they just killed enough Americans, the resistance would stop, but instead, for every American killed, ten more would take up arms against them, resulting in perpetual bloodshed. Imagine if most of the citizens of the foreign land also wanted these troops to return home. Imagine if they elected a leader who promised to bring them home and put an end to this horror.
Imagine if that leader changed his mind once he took office.
The reality is that our military presence on foreign soil is as offensive to the people that live there as armed Chinese troops would be if they were stationed in Texas. We would not stand for it here, but we have had a globe-straddling empire and a very intrusive foreign policy for decades that incites a lot of hatred and resentment towards us.
According to our own CIA, our meddling in the Middle East was the prime motivation for the horrific attacks on 9/11. But instead of re-evaluating our foreign policy, we have simply escalated it. We had a right to go after those responsible for 9/11, to be sure, but why do so many Americans feel as if we have a right to a military presence in some 160 countries when we wouldn't stand for even one foreign base on our soil, for any reason? These are not embassies, mind you, these are military installations. The new administration is not materially changing anything about this. Shuffling troops around and playing with semantics does not accomplish the goals of the American people, who simply want our men and women to come home. 50,000 troops left behind in Iraq is not conducive to peace any more than 50,000 Russian soldiers would be in the United States.
Shutting down military bases and ceasing to deal with other nations with threats and violence is not isolationism. It is the opposite. Opening ourselves up to friendship, honest trade and diplomacy is the foreign policy of peace and prosperity. It is the only foreign policy that will not bankrupt us in short order, as our current actions most definitely will. I share the disappointment of the American people in the foreign policy rhetoric coming from the administration. The sad thing is, our foreign policy WILL change eventually, as Rome's did, when all budgetary and monetary tricks to fund it are exhausted.

We had a right to go after those responsible for 9/11, to be sure, but why do so many Americans feel as if we have a right to a military presence in some 160 countries when we wouldn't stand for even one foreign base on our soil, for any reason? These are not embassies, mind you, these are military installations. The new administration is not materially changing anything about this. Shuffling troops around and playing with semantics does not accomplish the goals of the American people, who simply want our men and women to come home. 50,000 troops left behind in Iraq is not conducive to peace any more than 50,000 Russian soldiers would be in the United States.
Shutting down military bases and ceasing to deal with other nations with threats and violence is not isolationism. It is the opposite. Opening ourselves up to friendship, honest trade and diplomacy is the foreign policy of peace and prosperity. It is the only foreign policy that will not bankrupt us in short order, as our current actions most definitely will. I share the disappointment of the American people in the foreign policy rhetoric coming from the administration. The sad thing is, our foreign policy WILL change eventually, as Rome's did, when all budgetary and monetary tricks to fund it are exhausted.

The decision to end the US use of Manas, just outside the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek, could have potentially far-reaching consequences for US and NATO operations in Afghanistan.
Interfax and RIA-Novosti quoted Kurmanbek Bakiyev, on a visit to Moscow, as making the statement just minutes after Russia announced it was providing the poor Central Asian nation with billions (b) of US dollars in aid.
General David Petraeus, commander of US forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, said during a trip to Central Asia last month that Manas air base would be key to plans to boost US troop presence in Afghanistan by up to 30,000 soldiers in the coming months.
The Kyrgyz government "made a decision on ending the term for the American military base on the territory of Kyrgyzstan" Bakiyev said during a news conference with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Kyrgyz government officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
The US Embassy in Kyrgyzstan said a press briefing was scheduled for Wednesday morning.
Officials with US Central Command also said they were unable to comment.
The United States set up the Manas base in Kyrgyzstan and a base in neighbouring Uzbekistan after the attacks of September 11 2001 to back operations in Afghanistan.
Uzbekistan expelled US troops from the base on its territory in 2005 in a dispute over human rights issues, leaving Manas as the only US.military facility in the region.
Russia has long been suspicious of the US presence in what it considers its strategic backyard and agreed on Tuesday to provide Kyrgyzstan with two (b) billion US dollars in loans plus another 150 (m) million in financial aid.
Russia also uses a military airbase at Kant, Kyrgyzstan.
The United States currently pumps a total of 150 (m) million US dollars into Kyrgyzstan's economy annually, including 63 (m) million in rent for Manas, Petraeus said last month.

Imagine for a moment that somewhere in the middle of Texas there was a large foreign military base, say Chinese or Russian. Imagine that thousands of armed foreign troops were constantly patrolling American streets in military vehicles. Imagine they were here under the auspices of "keeping us safe" or "promoting democracy" or "protecting their strategic interests."
Imagine that they operated outside of US law, and that the Constitution did not apply to them. Imagine that every now and then they made mistakes or acted on bad information and accidentally killed or terrorized innocent Americans, including women and children, most of the time with little to no repercussions or consequences. Imagine that they set up checkpoints on our soil and routinely searched and ransacked entire neighborhoods of homes. Imagine if Americans were fearful of these foreign troops, and overwhelmingly thought America would be better off without their presence.
Imagine if some Americans were so angry about them being in Texas that they actually joined together to fight them off, in defense of our soil and sovereignty, because leadership in government refused or were unable to do so. Imagine that those Americans were labeled terrorists or insurgents for their defensive actions, and routinely killed, or captured and tortured by the foreign troops on our land. Imagine that the occupiers' attitude was that if they just killed enough Americans, the resistance would stop, but instead, for every American killed, ten more would take up arms against them, resulting in perpetual bloodshed. Imagine if most of the citizens of the foreign land also wanted these troops to return home. Imagine if they elected a leader who promised to bring them home and put an end to this horror.
Imagine if that leader changed his mind once he took office.
The reality is that our military presence on foreign soil is as offensive to the people that live there as armed Chinese troops would be if they were stationed in Texas. We would not stand for it here, but we have had a globe-straddling empire and a very intrusive foreign policy for decades that incites a lot of hatred and resentment towards us.
According to our own CIA, our meddling in the Middle East was the prime motivation for the horrific attacks on 9/11. But instead of re-evaluating our foreign policy, we have simply escalated it. The protestors attempted to form a three-kilometre (one-point-five mile) chain between the two buildings to oppose a military agreement that would allow U-S troops to train in the country.
As the Philippines Senate launched a debate on whether to approve a deal to allow American soldiers to train on Filipino soil, hundreds of protesters converged on the capital to vent their opposition to the idea.
Last year both countries signed the deal, which needs Senate approval to go into affect.
The Visiting Forces Agreement would give the United States legal jurisdiction over U-S soldiers who commit crimes while on duty in the Philippines.
The Philippines would have jurisdiction over crimes committed while off duty.
Before 1996 a legal loophole shielded U-S military personnel from local prosecution.
And critics say the new deal would continue limit the Philippine government's right to prosecute American soldiers.
They're also worried about a rise in prostitution and the spread of sexually transmitted disease, two problems that grew up around the former U-S navy base in the Philippines' Subic Bay.
The activists, who were mostly women, held a rope strung with anti-American posters along one side of a busy boulevard.
But they were unable to cobble together enough protesters to span the entire stretch between the embassy and Senate.
At one end of the chain, near the U-S Embassy, protest leaders tried to set up tents on a lawn but riot policemen arrived and dismantled the tents without arresting anyone.
The Philippine government has recently stepped up its campaign to gather public support for the agreement ahead of the Senate vote later this month.
President Joseph Estrada says the country needs the agreement and a close military alliance with the United States because of the Philippines' poorly equipped armed forces.
More than two-thirds of the Senators are expected to vote in favour of the agreement later this month.
That would pave the way for large-scale U-S Philippine military exercises to begin again after being suspended three years ago.
The United States halted major exercises in the Philippines and visits by U-S Navy vessels in December 1996.
Military ties with the United States -- which ruled the Philippines for nearly half a century -- have remained a sensitive topic since the Philippine Senate forced the closure of the last U-S base in 1992.
