Alleged Bourke Street attacker Dimitrious "Jimmy" Gargasoulas is facing an additional charge of murder, following the January 20 attack that killed six people and injured dozens more.

In a statement on Friday morning, police said the 26-year-old Windsor man has now been charged with six counts of murder, 28 counts of attempted murder and conduct endangering life.

The additional murder charge comes almost two months after the 33-year-old Blackburn South woman Bhavita Patel died in hospital, 10 days after the attack.

Mr Gargasoulas has also been charged with attempted murder, intentionally causing serious injury, robbery and unlawful imprisonment following two incidents in Windsor before the Bourke Street massacre.

He has been remanded to appear in court on December 15, 2017.

"The homicide squad are focused on progressing the investigation as a priority and are consulting with the Director of Public Prosecution and the State Coroner as the investigation progresses," the statement said.

Six people died after Mr Gargasoulas allegedly drove a car into the busy CBD mall and mowed down dozens of pedestrians on the afternoon of January 20.

Those killed were three-month-old Zachary Bryant, 10-year-old Thalia Hakin, Matthew Si, 33, Jess Mudie, 22, an unnamed 25-year-old man, and Ms Patel.

At least 31 people were injured in the tragedy, but all the surviving victims have since been discharged from hospital.
