Ford Kuga recalled for engine fire risk

Ford has issued a recall for 4850 vehicles dues to risk of catastrophic engine fire. 

The recall extends to 4450 Ford Kugas powered by a 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine built between December 16, 2012 and July 2, 2014 and 400 Ford Fiesta STs also featuring the 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine built between March 26, 2013 and November 11, 2014. 

Affected vehicles may experience overheating of the engine cylinder head due to a lack of coolant circulation, which in turn may lead to a crack in the cylinder head and a resulting oil leak which can spark an engine fire. 

Ford will write to affected owners and will notify them again once parts are available. 

The blue oval brand has stated that owners in the meantime should check coolant levels, as maintaining the correct level will reduce the risk and if their car shows any sign of overheating to contact their local dealer to make an appointment.
