Son Lux

Ryan Lott, known by his stage name Son Lux, is an American musician who was born in Denver, Colorado, United States, and is based in New York. He has released four albums, two EPs and a handful of singles, his most recent album Bones appeared in June 2015. He is also a member of Sisyphus and has featured on one album and an EP with this trio. Additionally Lott has scored the soundtracks a number of films, most notably Paper Towns (2015) and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby (2013). In late 2014 he signed with Glassnote Records after previously being with Joyful Noise Recordings.

History

Lott worked full-time in New York City from 2007 until 2012 composing music for commercials. While he mainly concentrates now on his music career, he still continues to compose commercial music for various projects.

Son Lux released his debut album, At War with Walls & Mazes, on Anticon in 2008. Following this release, NPR named Son Lux "Best New Artist" on their program All Songs Considered.

His second album, We Are Rising, was released on Anticon in 2011. It was recorded in 28 days for the RPM Challenge and was described by Consequence of Sound as "the dark, operatic middle ground between Owen Pallett and In Rainbows-era Radiohead or Wild Beasts' fantastic, operatic heights." He is a member of Sisyphus along with Serengeti and Sufjan Stevens. The trio released their debut EP, Beak & Claw, on Anticon in 2012. Son Lux signed with Joyful Noise Recordings in May 2013, the same month that his "haunting rendition" of Black Water was featured in JNR's flexi-series. Simultaneous with the announcement that he would be joining Joyful Noise, he released the TEAR, a conceptual 7" featuring one new song in two distinct parts. The album Lanterns was released on October 29, 2013. The album includes vocals from then label-mate Cat Martino of Stranger Cat. The lead single "Lost It To Trying" was immediately named one of Pitchfork's Best New Tracks.

Mat Zo

Matan Zohar (born 30 April 1990), better known by his stage name Mat Zo, is a Grammy-nominated British producer, composer and DJ. Zohar released his debut album, Damage Control, via the Anjunabeats and Astralwerks labels on 5 November 2013.

Life and career

The son of artist Israel Zohar, and half-brother of Israeli singer Alma Zohar, Matan Zohar was born in London in 1990. He was raised by his mother, Wendy Caron Zohar, a professional violinist who, with staunch musical ethos, nurtured Matan's early love of—and prodigious inclination toward—music. From age one to eleven, Zohar and his family lived in the city of Cleveland, Ohio, US. It was there at age 8 where his father presented young Zohar with a guitar as a gift. He returned at age 11 to London and continued pursuing his musical interests as a drummer and bassist as a member of a jazz and rock band respectively. However, Zohar became more interested in musical acts such as Daft Punk and the Chemical Brothers, and his musical inclinations shifted to those of electronic dance music and DJing.

Vine pull schemes

Vine pull schemes are programs whereby grape growers receive a financial incentive to pull up their grape vines, a process known as arrachage in French. A large program of the kind was initiated by the European Union (EU) in 1988 to reduce the wine lake glut from overproduction and declining demand. In the first five years of the program, growers, mainly in southern France and southern Italy, were paid to destroy 320,000 hectares or 790,400 acres (3,199 km²) of vineyard. This was the equivalent to the entire vineyard area of the world’s fourth largest grower of grapes, the United States. The EU has recently resumed a vine pull scheme and Plan Bordeaux proposes additional vine pulls to increase prices for generic Bordeaux wine.

It is believed that this has contributed to the "global wine shortage". Research by America's Morgan Stanley financial services firm says demand for wine "exceeded supply by 300m cases in 2012".

Bonnie McKee

Bonnie Leigh McKee (born January 20, 1984) is an American singer and songwriter. Her debut album, Trouble, was released in September 2004 under Reprise Records. After being dropped by Reprise several years after its release, McKee had taken a musical hiatus before establishing a name for herself as a songwriter. McKee has co-written eight singles that have reached #1 in the United States or the United Kingdom, which have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide combined. After sometime of focusing on songwriting, McKee released "American Girl" in July 2013.

McKee is particularly known for collaborating with pop singer Katy Perry, and the duo have co-written the hits "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," "Part of Me," "Wide Awake," and "Roar" together. McKee also co-wrote "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz, which became the second best-selling song by a British artist in the digital era.

Early life

Childhood

Bonnie Leigh McKee was born in Vacaville, California and raised in Seattle, Washington. She studied classical piano and became a member of the Seattle Girls Choir Prime Voci at age 12, and toured with the choir throughout North America and Europe. She recorded two albums with the choir, titled Jackson Berkey Meets The Seattle Girls' Choir and Cantate 2000. She briefly attended The Bush School, where she recorded a demo as part of a class project, before being kicked out soon after. At age 12, McKee's mother gave a demo CD featuring her singing Bette Midler and Fiona Apple songs to a friend of hers, the co-founder of the Sub Pop label, Jonathon Poneman, who was intrigued by her songwriting talents. According to McKee, this was the moment when she realized she had to be "more than just a singer," but a songwriter as well.

Then Billy is found dead, murdered in cold blood. The circle of suspects includes Billy's girlfriend Carole; head bouncer Slim, father figure to both Mack and Billy; the flashy new DJ Jez and the conscience stricken Mack. Locked in the nightclub after hours, with enemies circling, and a briefcase containing 200,000 pounds Mack has till morning to discover who killed Billy and to learn an inescapable truth, what goes around, comes around.

Shot on Hollywood boulevard with a fusion of colors, the film combines a spunky core of truth and innocence, a fine performance by its young star, Jennifer Mayo, an excellent rock score, and surprising moments of humor, including a hilarious send-up of blue movie-making and Ruby's noirish encounter with the john from hell, a crazed, Phil Spector-like musician on Halloween night.
