Nanzhong (南中) was an ancient region consisting of modern-day Yunnan, Guizhou, and southern Sichuan in southern China.
The region was the homeland of the Nanman tribes, led by Meng Huo. In 225 AD, the famed statesman Zhuge Liang led three columns into Yunnan to assert authority over the tribes. His seven captures of Meng Huo is celebrated in Chinese folklore.
