Married At First Sight 2017: Anthony is 'not in love' with Nadia and her mad dash to Sydney looks doomed

Give me an "A" for answers, give me an "A" for Anthony, give me an "A" for ... OK, we won't go there. But if a person's home is a reflection of who they are then Anthony certainly likes the letter A (you can see his initial pictured over his fireplace).

"Are we in love?" Nadia asks the question of the wider universe but Anthony, it seems, already has the answer. Still he'd rather tell his mates (and the rest of Australia) than blow her off over Skype. So instead Nadia hops on a flight to Sydney to confront her betrothed.

MAFS 2017: 'We're definitely not in love'

Anthony confides in his friends, telling them he's not in love with Nadia. Vision: Married At First Sight, Nine Network.

"I need to start asserting myself more here because I need a green light from Anthony. I need answers."

You see, Nadia's rental lease has expired and she has a job opportunity in Sydney that will allow her to be with Anthony, "so I just need a green light". To which Anthony drops this, for lack of a better term, bombshell on Nadia: "Yeah it weighs on my mind that not only do we need to overcome the distance burden but at the same time that my career choice and my lifestyle is not sustainable for a relationship long-term.

"You're going to need me around when you have days off, for example, and there'll be times when I'm just not going to be."

"I didn't see that one coming" – we did. Now she's confused (we're not) and he tells the cameras: "I've realised it's too soon for us to make that commitment, where one of us moves.

"These are all things that are coming into my mind after the experiment has finished because while we were in the experiment we were in this little bubble for eight weeks and it's all a bit of a fairytale and it's all fun and we're all spending time together. But it's not real and the reality is, is that it's going to be hard.

"At this stage, I'm really not sure if Nadia and I will make it last, long, long term."

While this viewer is left pelting olives at the screen, Married At First Sight turns to more happily-situated lovers like Simon and Alene, whose adorable-bordering-OTT banter sets them up as the couple who succeeded. Pat on the back experiment, you're not just a highly publicised form of Tinder.

And while gossip magazines have pictures of Sharon buying a baby bouncer in Perth (Channel Nine has refused to comment – it all helps with the ratings), it's revealed that Sharon and Nick's plans to shack up in Perth has to be put on hiatus after Nick learns his father has motor neuron disease, which is incurable. "We stick together, we're the boys that are so close, so I guess moving to Perth with Sharon, that's not going to happen... I don't know what I'm in for in the future but I hope Sharon is by my side."

To which, Sharon now has to contemplate life in Melbourne. "I completely understand if Nick needs to stay in Melbourne because of that and I wouldn't want him to move to Perth if that was the case with his dad. There's only one option I see for our relationship to work and that's for me to move to Melbourne. I'm at the point where I'm like shit, I've got to make a decision here."

But poor Vanessa and Andy appear destined to be only friends as Andy packs his bags for Mount Everest, while Vanessa faces her insurmountable summit – Andy's "lack of communication" – over Skype. There are certainly enough tears to suggest that it's all too painful.

Meanwhile all hopes of Sean and Susan running back into each others' arms are overstated. Yes Susan continues to be in love with him but her decision still appears binding, for now.

"Since the experiment ended and me and Sean have been contacting each other. I'm confused, I don't know what it means. I think about Sean all the time .. and I haven't even thought of dating anyone at all.

"I love Sean and always will, there is nothing he could do ever, being the person I know he is, to ever hurt me. So I suppose when you meet an amazing guy like that you never give up on the hope of something possibly working out.

"Maybe, one day, it could be happily ever after 'cause that's what I wanted and that's what he wanted. Yeah, wait and see."

So back to Nadia and Anthony, and it's just as well my antipasto platter has dwindled because the screen is getting oily.

When asked how he feels about Nadia on a scale of "zero to smitten in love", Anthony tells his mates: "Mate, we're definitely not in love. Yeah neither of us are at that point." Cut to Nadia telling her friends: "I feel committed to Anthony and I'd like to think at this point in my life I'm street smart enough to choose a good man, not a fickle man."

"Liking someone only counts for so much so.. I mean how long do you give it?" Anthony says with a shrug of his shoulders.

He may not have blown her off entirely but Nadia has picked up on the fact that they are "treading water" since their earlier Skype conversation.

"Right now I'm a little bit unsure about me moving states because I feel like he's closing off and is getting frustrated," she tells the cameras.

"I wish that Anthony would just say 'I would love for you to come to Sydney'. I want Anthony in my life and I adore him and I think he's a great guy and I want to pursue this with him, but right now for me to move to Sydney I feel like I need that reassurance. And right now I feel we are 'pending', we're pending until we meet again."

So she packs her bags for Sydney. "When push comes to shove I need some signs. I need to know that we're on the same page... I'm wanting something like, real."

Anthony is nervous. "Nadia and I are at the age where we have to get this right. We're running out of time, we're both in our mid 30s and we both want the same thing long term. But are we right for each other?

"Ultimately those big decisions we need to make and we've got to a point where it's good.

"But it's not great."

Ka-pow!

In the fairness of being more even-handed to Anthony, who is now reportedly in hiding because of all the hate he's copping from viewers, Nadia has told The FIX that there is more to Anthony and the relationship than the show has let on.

"I'm aware as to how things can be portrayed or edited on TV," Nadia saud. "I'm completely open about that. But I think in my mindset when you are completely yourself and you don't compromise that — we are in control of what we say and what we do — you can't really go wrong.

"Things will come out as they do, people will interpret things as they will, that's the price you pay for putting your love life on a national platform."
