Local hedge fund Watermark Funds Management has bolstered its investments team with two new sector coverage heads.

As Street Talk reported on Tuesday, Hamish Chalmers will join Watermark as head of global financials in May, moving home from London to join the Sydney-based asset manager.

Chalmers spent the past seven years at Och-Ziff Capital Management in London as a portfolio manager and financial services specialist, and previously worked as an equity analyst at Macquarie.

Watermark has also picked up Ian Carmichael from Platinum Asset Management, where he was a team leader and covered the healthcare and consumer sectors.

Carmichael will join Watermark as head of the global consumer sector next month.

The hires takes Watermark's investments team to seven, including six sector coverage heads and founder Justin Braitling.

It's understood Watermark has also hired a quantitative analyst, Leon Lu, who joins the firm from Deloitte.

The hires come as Watermark's funds under management passed $700 million and following the launch of its listed Watermark Global Leaders Fund late last year.
