Tracey K

Tracey K is an Irish singer, songwriter best known for providing the vocals, as well as the lyrics for the UK Dance Chart topper "The Cure and The Cause". Other well-known songs written and performed by Tracey include "Nights Like These" and the live favourite "Battery Man".

Career

Raised in Kerry, in the south west of Ireland.

Dextris

While in University in Galway, Tracey joined Dextris, a group consisting of two vocalists harmonising over house and hip-hop beats spun by a DJ. It was something new in Ireland at the time, and Dextris were well known on the Irish club scene.

Fish Go Deep

In 2003 Tracey proposed a collaboration with Shane Johnson and Greg Dowling of Fish Go Deep. They first track they worked on being "Lil' Hand" which was later to emerge as the title track on their debut long-player.

Their first release was "Nights Like These", which came out on the UK's Inspirit Music Label in 2003. This was to mark the beginning of a musical relationship loved by House music fans and music lovers alike. In 2004 "Lil' Hand" was released on Canadian label, Ultrasound Recordings, the album from which the house anthem, "The Cure and The Cause" was born. The single was remixed by Dennis Ferrer in 2005 and its slow rise to fame did not pinnacle until it was re-released later in 2006 on UK giant Defected, where it reached No. 23 in the UK main Top 75 and No. 1 in the dance chart. The song was given a US release on legendary label Strictly Rhythm in 2007.

The Cure

The Cure are an English rock band formed in Crawley, West Sussex, in 1976. The band has experienced several line-up changes, with vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter Robert Smith being the only constant member. The Cure first began releasing music in the late 1970's with their debut album Three Imaginary Boys; this, along with several early singles, placed the band as part of the post-punk and new wave movements that had sprung up in the wake of the punk rock revolution in the United Kingdom. During the early 1980's, the band's increasingly dark and tormented music was a staple of the emerging gothic rock genre.

After the release of 1982's Pornography, the band's future was uncertain and Smith was keen to move past the gloomy reputation his band had acquired. With the single "Let's Go to Bed" released the same year, Smith began to place a pop sensibility into the band's music and their popularity increased as the decade wore on, with songs like "Just Like Heaven", "Lovesong" and "Friday I'm in Love". The band is estimated to have sold 27 million albums as of 2004 and have released thirteen studio albums, ten EPs and over thirty singles during their career.

Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)

"Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)" is a song by Italian electronic producer Spiller, featuring vocals by British singer-songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor. The single was released in August 2000 by Positiva Records. It peaked at number one in the UK, New Zealand, Ireland and Australia, as well as charting at number three on the American Hot Dance Chart. On 15 September 2000, the song was certified gold record status by the British Phonographic Industry, and was certified platinum on 22 July 2013. Various versions of the single were later featured on the German reissue and some UK editions of Ellis-Bextor's debut solo album, Read My Lips.

Background

The track was originally created by Spiller in 1999 as an instrumental, with no singing, and was included on the Mighty Miami EP. It is mainly built upon samples from "Love Is You", a disco song originally performed by Carol Williams with the Salsoul Orchestra. In order to make the track more palatable for airplay, as the instrumental is somewhat repetitive, Positiva asked British singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, formerly with indie rock band theaudience, to provide lyrics and vocals for the song. Before recording, the lyric was partly reworked by Rob Davis, who replaced Ellis-Bextor's proposed hook "And so it goes..." with the line "If this ain't love...", thereby providing the song with its subtitle. Boris Dlugosch produced the vocal portions added to the track. Sharon Scott is the back-up vocalist. The track has been remixed by Boris Dlugosch and Michi Lange, Todd Terry, Solar, Ramon "Ray Roc" Checo and Ernest St. Laurent.

Go Deep

"Go Deep" is a song by American singer Janet Jackson from her sixth studio album, The Velvet Rope (1997). It was written and produced by Jackson, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, with additional writing by René Elizondo, Jr. The song was released as the fourth single from the album on June 15, 1998, by Virgin Records. An R&B song with funk elements, "Go Deep" lyrically talks about Jackson's desire to cruise a club, get a man and take him home to make the man "scream and moan". Official remixes for the song were released, featuring Missy Elliott, Teddy Riley and Timbaland.

"Go Deep" received mixed reviews by music critics, who found the song irresistible, while others called it tedious. Commercially it fared well worldwide, peaking within the top twenty in New Zealand and the United Kingdom, while being successful on the US Hot Dance Club Play, reaching number one. A music video directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris depicts Ty Hodges having a daydream with Jackson giving a party in his house after his parents had left town for the weekend. The singer performed the song on the 1998 The Velvet Rope Tour and as a dedication at the Manila stop during the Number Ones, Up Close and Personal tour in 2011.

Fish Go Deep

Fish Go Deep are an Irish production duo consisting of Greg Dowling and Shane Johnson from Cork. They have been releasing house records under this name since 1997 and in 2006 they reached number 1 on both the dance chart and indie chart with their track "The Cure & the Cause". The track featured vocals from Tracey Kelliher and was remixed by two soulful house veterans, Dennis Ferrer and DJ Memê.

"The Cure and the Cause" originally missed the UK Top 75 but was re-released later in the year where it finally became a hit in the UK, peaking at 23.

Past & Present

The duos first release was a 12" on Red Records entitled In Motion, which had a track called Silver on the flip side and was released under the name "Fish Go Tech" in 1994. Their first release as Fish Go Deep did not arrive until 3 years later. Another 12" called In Motion on the aptly named Eventual Records.

Background

Both Greg & Shane played an integral part in the emergence of house music in Cork City between the years of 1988 and 2001 as their well renowned "Sweat" night at Sir Henrys helped to attract a host of talent, such as Kerri Chandler, Arnold Jarvis, Laurent Garnier, DJ Deep, Jerome Sydenham, Roger Sanchez, Glenn Underground, Boo Williams, Cajmere, Gemini, Derrick May, Kevin Yost, Migs, Rasoul and Fred Everything.
