Lucozade
Lucozade is an umbrella name for a series of energy and sports drinks. Originating in 1927 as the culmination of Newcastle chemist William Owen's efforts to create a source of energy for those who were sick with common illnesses, "Glucozade" was renamed Lucozade in 1929. The product was acquired by Beecham's in 1938, and the Lucozade name has since moved to several other companies in successive mergers and acquisitions. On 9 September 2013, both Lucozade and Ribena were acquired from GlaxoSmithKline by the Japanese conglomerate Suntory for £1.35 billion.
Lucozade (alongside Ribena) is produced at the Royal Forest Factory in Coleford, Gloucestershire, in the Forest of Dean, England.
History
"Glucozade" was first manufactured in 1927 by William Owen, a chemist based at Barras Bridge, Newcastle. Owen experimented for several years to provide a source of energy for those who were sick with common illnesses, like the common cold or influenza. It became available throughout Britain for use in hospitals under the name Glucozade. This was changed to Lucozade in 1929, and Beecham's acquired the product in 1938. By the early 1950s, Lucozade was the source of half of the company's profits.

Chris Cairns
Christopher Lance Cairns, ONZM (born 13 June 1970) is a former all-rounder who played for the New Zealand international cricket team, the Black Caps, and is son of former New Zealand cricketer Lance Cairns. He starred in both the One-day and Test New Zealand teams, as well as the Canterbury New Zealand domestic championship team. Cairns also captained the Black Caps on seven occasions, usually when regular captain Stephen Fleming was unavailable.
Cairns finished his Test career with a batting average of 33.53 and a bowling average of 29.40. In 2000, he was named as one of five Wisden Cricketers of the Year.
After his playing career Cairns went on to become a commentator with Sky Sport New Zealand.
Career
Cairns was a destructive batsman who could hit sixes straight down the ground and in his earlier days was an intelligent fast-medium bowler. Since then, persistent injuries have forced him to drop his pace and rely more on his hard-to-read slower ball.
With the bat, Cairns has been the author of some of New Zealand cricket's most memorable innings, including his unbeaten 102 to win the final of the 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy for New Zealand against India in Kenya, and his 158 from just 172 balls in a Test against South Africa in 2004. Cairns knocked Shane Warne out of Australia's bowling attack during a 2000 test in Wellington when he launched several sixes out of the Basin Reserve and onto the adjacent street. Cairns formerly held the world record for most sixes in Tests (87, since surpassed by Adam Gilchrist), and for a time held the New Zealand record for fastest century in ODIs (75 balls, currently owned by Corey Anderson with 36 balls).

Made in 2013 by Cullen Hoback, it discusses the language used in user-service agreements on the World Wide Web, how they collect information, and the usage of the information.
It criticizes companies such as Facebook, Google, and LinkedIn for having poorly worded and misguiding privacy policies/terms of service, which use user-unfriendly language in long documents that allows them to collect user information and legally provide it to third-party users. The film aims to warn people about the risks of clicking “I Agree” after scrolling through pages of uninviting text.

Creative agency Grey London has launched an innovative, content-led campaign for Lucozade Sport – the official sports drink of the England football team – ahead of the 2014 World Cup, which centres around the brand’s ‘Conditions Zone’ – a state of the art 5-a-side venue that gives amateur players the chance to play in the same heat and humidity that their footballing heroes will face this summer in Brazil. Launching the campaign is an eye-catching film which uses CGI and 3D body scanning technology to literally melt England Captain and Lucozade Sport brand ambassador Steven Gerrard. The film opens with Gerrard looking every inch the captain: standing tall, chest out, hand on badge. As the camera pans in, the hairs on the back of his neck prickle in a wave of heat and a single bead of sweat forms on his brow, running down his face before splashing onto the ground. A voiceover – narrated by actor Benedict Cumberbatch – kicks in: ‘As the temperature soars, and the humidity rises; bodies will weaken, performances suffer’. Through a haze, we see Gerrard begin to wilt. Before long, he’s a shadow of the figure he was; a limp caricature in a pool of sweat. Suddenly, the melting stops – then quickly reverses – as the voiceover continues: ‘Only those who know how to beat the conditions will rule’. The film ends with Gerrard tall once more, a steely determinedness in his eye. The campaign’s focal point is the Lucozade Sport Conditions Zone,. The five-a-side venue is based in London’s Canary Wharf and replicates the conditions England will experience this summer in Brazil: temperatures of up to 32 degrees with 76% humidity. During each game, players will be monitored by a sports scientist, receiving analysis on performance variables including heart rate exertion, distance covered, weight loss and sweat loss before receiving a scientific analysis demonstrating the impact the conditions have had on their performance. The facility will be open 3rd-24th June and is free to play in. A raft of additional content – focussed on the effect extreme conditions can have on your body – will be rolled out over the coming weeks. Darren Wright, creative director, Grey London, says: “We wanted to address the controversy around England’s chances against the conditions in Brazil – by giving people the chance to experience the extreme heat and humidity first hand. With the film, we wanted to visualise the effects of those conditions – and what more striking way than to ‘melt’ the England captain. It’s a great example of creating an immersive experience that connects brands to cultural conversations.” Chris Cairns, director, adds: “What does a human being melting look like? And how do we achieve that look on film? We investigated making and melting wax models before settling on a fully CG approach – we didn’t want to be slaves to physics in our quest for the best look. As well as standard shots, we captured an incredibly high-resolution 3D scan and texture of Stevie G to give us complete control over the melt. Creative agency Grey London has launched an innovative, content-led campaign for Lucozade Sport – the official sports drink of the England football team – ahead of the 2014 World Cup, which centres around the brand’s ‘Conditions Zone’ – a state of the art 5-a-side venue that gives amateur players the chance to play in the same heat and humidity that their footballing heroes will face this summer in Brazil.
Launching the campaign is an eye-catching film which uses CGI and 3D body scanning technology to literally melt England Captain and Lucozade Sport brand ambassador Steven Gerrard.
The film opens with Gerrard looking every inch the captain: standing tall, chest out, hand on badge. As the camera pans in, the hairs on the back of his neck prickle in a wave of heat and a single bead of sweat forms on his brow, running down his face before splashing onto the ground. A voiceover – narrated by actor Benedict Cumberbatch – kicks in:
‘As the temperature soars, and the humidity rises; bodies will weaken, performances suffer’. Through a haze, we see Gerrard begin to wilt. Before long, he’s a shadow of the figure he was; a limp caricature in a pool of sweat. Suddenly, the melting stops – then quickly reverses – as the voiceover continues: ‘Only those who know how to beat the conditions will rule’. The film ends with Gerrard tall once more, a steely determinedness in his eye.
The campaign’s focal point is the Lucozade Sport Conditions Zone,. The five-a-side venue is based in London’s Canary Wharf and replicates the conditions England will experience this summer in Brazil: temperatures of up to 32 degrees with 76% humidity.
During each game, players will be monitored by a sports scientist, receiving analysis on performance variables including heart rate exertion, distance covered, weight loss and sweat loss before receiving a scientific analysis demonstrating the impact the conditions have had on their performance. The facility will be open 3rd-24th June and is free to play in. For more information, visit www.lucozadesport.com/conditionszone
The TV spot was directed by Chris Cairns through Partizan, with CGI and post production from Time Based Arts. A raft of additional content – focussed on the effect extreme conditions can have on your body – will be rolled out over the coming weeks.
Darren Wright, creative director, Grey London, says: “We wanted to address the controversy around England’s chances against the conditions in Brazil – by giving people the chance to experience the extreme heat and humidity first hand. With the film, we wanted to visualise the effects of those conditions – and what more striking way than to ‘melt’ the England captain. It’s a great example of creating an immersive experience that connects brands to cultural conversations.”
Chris Cairns, director, adds: “What does a human being melting look like? And how do we achieve that look on film? We investigated making and melting wax models before settling on a fully CG approach – we didn’t want to be slaves to physics in our quest for the best look. As well as standard shots, we captured an incredibly high-resolution 3D scan and texture of Stevie G to give us complete control over the melt. My favourite projects combine the aesthetic and the technical and this one had a perfect balance of the two.”
