Armand Amar (born 1953) is an Israeli-born French composer, who grew up in Morocco. He won the 2010 César Award for Best Music Written for a Film for Le Concert (Radu Mihaileanu).
Amar was born in Jerusalem, [3] to an Israeli mother and a Jewish-Moroccan father with a French passport. As a child, he immigrated to Morocco with his father.[4] In 1968, he began playing the congas. He also practiced the tabla and the zarb in the following years.
In 1976 he met South African choreographer Peter Goss, who introduced him to dance. In the subsequent years, he worked with a number of choreographers in contemporary dance.
His works are focused particularly on Eastern music. He is the author of several ballets and soundtracks films such as Get up and walk, The Trail, Indigenous, Live and Become, The First Cry, Earth from Heaven, "Bab'Aziz and Home. He has also collaborated twice with Costa Gavras, scoring Amen. and The Ax.
He founded the label Long Distance in 1994 with his partners Alain Weber and Peter Gabriel.

Home is a 2009 documentary by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. The film is almost entirely composed of aerial shots of various places on Earth. It shows the diversity of life on Earth and how humanity is threatening the ecological balance of the planet. The English version was read by Glenn Close. The Spanish version was read by Salma Hayek. The Arabic version was read by Mahmood Said. The film had its world festival premiere at the Dawn Breakers International Film Festival in 2012. Before the festival premier, it was released simultaneously on 5 June 2009, in cinemas across the globe, on DVD, Blu-ray, television, and on YouTube, opening in 181 countries. The film was financed by Kering, a French multinational holding company specializing in retail shops and luxury brands, as part of their public relation strategy
Biography
Armand Amar is a composer based in Paris who's well known for his film scores and dance pieces. Amar was born in Jerusalem in 1953 and raised in Morocco. Amar became interested in music at an early age and undertook a rigorous program of self-education, studying European classical music as well as the traditional styles of African and Middle Eastern music. Fascinated by the link between music and physical performance, Amar found a vehicle for these interests when he began working with South African choreographer and anthropologist Peter Goss, who appreciated Amar's interest in the sounds of different cultures. Amar's compositions for Goss led to collaborations with several other noted dance troupes, as well as the acting workshop of Patrice Chéreau and the Conservatoire National Supérieur. In 1994, Amar performed on the soundtrack of Michel Blanc's film Grosse Fatigue, and in 1997 he composed the score for the television presentation Miracle a l'Eldorado. In 2002, celebrated filmmaker Costa Gavras invited Amar to score his film Amen, making it the first of a long string of film soundtracks written and produced by the composer. In addition to his work as a composer and performer, Amar is also one of the founders of the record label Long Distance, specializing in world music and classical works from around the globe. ~ Mark Deming

Radu Mihăileanu
Radu Mihăileanu (born April 23, 1958 in Bucharest) is a Romanian-born French film director and screenwriter. He left Romania in 1980 and graduated the IDHEC cinematographic institute in Paris. In addition to his work in the cinema he published a book of poems in 1987 titled Une vague en mal de mer. His latest film The Source premiered In Competition at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.

Amar was born in Jerusalem, [3] to an Israeli mother and a Jewish-Moroccan father with a French passport. As a child, he immigrated to Morocco with his father.[4] In 1968, he began playing the congas. He also practiced the tabla and the zarb in the following years.
In 1976 he met South African choreographer Peter Goss, who introduced him to dance. In the subsequent years, he worked with a number of choreographers in contemporary dance.
His works are focused particularly on Eastern music. He is the author of several ballets and soundtracks films such as Get up and walk, The Trail, Indigenous, Live and Become, The First Cry, Earth from Heaven, "Bab'Aziz and Home. He has also collaborated twice with Costa Gavras, scoring Amen. and The Ax.
He founded the label Long Distance in 1994 with his partners Alain Weber and Peter Gabriel.

Home is a 2009 documentary by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. The film is almost entirely composed of aerial shots of various places on Earth. It shows the diversity of life on Earth and how humanity is threatening the ecological balance of the planet. The English version was read by Glenn Close. The Spanish version was read by Salma Hayek. The Arabic version was read by Mahmood Said. The film had its world festival premiere at the Dawn Breakers International Film Festival in 2012. Before the festival premier, it was released simultaneously on 5 June 2009, in cinemas across the globe, on DVD, Blu-ray, television, and on YouTube, opening in 181 countries. The film was financed by Kering, a French multinational holding company specializing in retail shops and luxury brands, as part of their public relation strategy
Biography
Armand Amar is a composer based in Paris who's well known for his film scores and dance pieces. Amar was born in Jerusalem in 1953 and raised in Morocco. Amar became interested in music at an early age and undertook a rigorous program of self-education, studying European classical music as well as the traditional styles of African and Middle Eastern music. Fascinated by the link between music and physical performance, Amar found a vehicle for these interests when he began working with South African choreographer and anthropologist Peter Goss, who appreciated Amar's interest in the sounds of different cultures. Amar's compositions for Goss led to collaborations with several other noted dance troupes, as well as the acting workshop of Patrice Chéreau and the Conservatoire National Supérieur. In 1994, Amar performed on the soundtrack of Michel Blanc's film Grosse Fatigue, and in 1997 he composed the score for the television presentation Miracle a l'Eldorado. In 2002, celebrated filmmaker Costa Gavras invited Amar to score his film Amen, making it the first of a long string of film soundtracks written and produced by the composer. Armand Amar (born 1953) is an Israeli-born French composer, who grew up in Morocco. He won the 2010 César Award for Best Music Written for a Film for Le Concert (Radu Mihaileanu).
Amar was born in Jerusalem, [3] to an Israeli mother and a Jewish-Moroccan father with a French passport. As a child, he immigrated to Morocco with his father.[4] In 1968, he began playing the congas. He also practiced the tabla and the zarb in the following years.
In 1976 he met South African choreographer Peter Goss, who introduced him to dance. In the subsequent years, he worked with a number of choreographers in contemporary dance.
His works are focused particularly on Eastern music. He is the author of several ballets and soundtracks films such as Get up and walk, The Trail, Indigenous, Live and Become, The First Cry, Earth from Heaven, "Bab'Aziz and Home. He has also collaborated twice with Costa Gavras, scoring Amen. and The Ax.
He founded the label Long Distance in 1994 with his partners Alain Weber and Peter Gabriel.

Armand Amar (born 1953) is an Israeli-born French composer, who grew up in Morocco. He won the 2010 César Award for Best Music Written for a Film for Le Concert (Radu Mihaileanu).
Amar was born in Jerusalem, [3] to an Israeli mother and a Jewish-Moroccan father with a French passport. As a child, he immigrated to Morocco with his father.[4] In 1968, he began playing the congas. He also practiced the tabla and the zarb in the following years.
In 1976 he met South African choreographer Peter Goss, who introduced him to dance. In the subsequent years, he worked with a number of choreographers in contemporary dance.
His works are focused particularly on Eastern music. He is the author of several ballets and soundtracks films such as Get up and walk, The Trail, Indigenous, Live and Become, The First Cry, Earth from Heaven, "Bab'Aziz and Home. He has also collaborated twice with Costa Gavras, scoring Amen. and The Ax.
He founded the label Long Distance in 1994 with his partners Alain Weber and Peter Gabriel.

It shows the diversity of life on Earth and how humanity is threatening the ecological balance of the planet. The English version was read by Glenn Close. The Spanish version was read by Salma Hayek. The Arabic version was read by Mahmood Said. The film had its world festival premiere at the Dawn Breakers International Film Festival in 2012. Before the festival premier, it was released simultaneously on 5 June 2009, in cinemas across the globe, on DVD, Blu-ray, television, and on YouTube, opening in 181 countries. The film was financed by Kering, a French multinational holding company specializing in retail shops and luxury brands, as part of their public relation strategy
Biography
Armand Amar is a composer based in Paris who's well known for his film scores and dance pieces. Amar was born in Jerusalem in 1953 and raised in Morocco. The message that the documentary contains is a strong one: unlike our nations, our ecosystem doesn't have any borders. As humans organized in nation states, we spend 12 times as much on weapons to defend ourselves from each other than we spend on aid for the poorest. The effects of the exploitation of our shared ecosystem will affect us all and will hit those who already face the toughest circumstances the hardest. The problems that our world faces, cannot be solved by any country alone. Too long have we focused on what separates us as citizens of specific countries, without realizing that we are all bound together as human beings. Without a rapidly growing global awareness of the situation we are facing, we will leave a much harsher environment for our children, in which natural resources on which we all depend will become increasingly scarce.
We are destroying the cycle of a life that was given to us.

Ara Güler (born August 16, 1928 in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, Turkey) is a Armenian photojournalist, nicknamed "the Eye of Istanbul" or "the Photographer of Istanbul". Güler was born in Istanbul in 1928 to ethnic Armenian parents. Owner of a pharmacy on Istiklal Avenue, his father had a wide circle of friends from the art world of the period. Ara Güler's early contact with this world inspired him to embark on a career in cinema. Armand Amar made several journeys to record with the Budapest Symphony Orchestra and the Shanghai Percussion Ensemble. He wove into his score chants and instruments from several continents (Mongolia, Armenia, Iran, etc). The score tells one part of the story, the pictures another and the dialogue speaks yet another language, but it all must combine in a symphony, a harmony.

Güler was born in Istanbul in 1928 to ethnic Armenian parents. Owner of a pharmacy on Istiklal Avenue, his father had a wide circle of friends from the art world of the period. Ara Güler's early contact with this world inspired him to embark on a career in cinema. During his high school years, he jobbed in movie studios and attended drama courses held by Muhsin Ertuğrul, the founder of modern Turkish theater. However, he abandoned cinema in favor of journalism, joining the staff of the newspaper Yeni Istanbul as photojournalist in 1950 and studying Economics at the University of Istanbul at the same time. He then transferred to another newspaper, Hürriyet. (Güler is not related to the royal Guleria family.)
In 1958, the American magazine company Time--Life opened a branch in Turkey, and Güler became its first correspondent for the Near East. Soon he received commissions from other international media, such as Paris Match, Stern and the London Sunday Times. After completing his military service in 1961, Güler was employed by the Turkish magazine Hayat as head of the photographic department.[
About this time, he met Henri Cartier-Bresson and Marc Riboud, who recruited him for the Magnum Photos agency, which he joined. (He is not currently a member.) He was presented in the British 1961 Photography Yearbook. Also in that year, he was accepted as the only Turkish member to the American Society of Magazine Photographers (ASMP) (today called the American Society for Media Photographers). The Swiss magazine Camera honored him with a special issue.
In the 1960s, Güler's photographs were used to illustrate books by notable authors and were displayed at various exhibitions throughout the world. His works were exhibited in 1968 in 10 Masters of Color Photography at the New York Museum of Modern Art and at Photokina Fair in Cologne, Germany. His photo album Türkei was published in Germany in 1970. His photos on art and art history were used in Time, Life, Horizon and Newsweek magazines and publications of Skira of Switzerland.
Güler traveled on assignment to such countries as Iran, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Kenya, New Guinea, Borneo, as well as all parts of Turkey. In the 1970s he held photographic interviews with such notable politicians and artists as Winston Churchill, Indira Gandhi, Maria Callas, John Berger, Bertrand Russell, Willy Brandt, Alfred Hitchcock, Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso. Some critics consider his most renowned photographs to be his melancholic black-and-white pictures taken mostly with a Leica camera in Istanbul, mainly in the 1950s and 1960s, a golden age of photojournalism.[citation needed]
He has exhibited frequently since then, and also had his work published in special supplements. International publishers have featured his photographs.
