A teenager girl is suing a motel, known as the “local epicenter of human trafficking,” for being complacent in allowing over 1000 men to sexual assault her and many other victims of sex trafficking. Last weekend, I received a nasty Facebook message from a person with zero friends who created their account the day of Trump’s inauguration. I could have responded to this person via Facebook but instead, I decided to take a cue from NPR and annotate this troll’s message in hopes of dispelling common myths and shedding light on the abuse and harassment women of color face on the internet every day.

Yesterday, the New Yorker published a stirring article on Being Indian in Trump’s America, a rumination by Amitava Kumar on racial violence, hate crimes and the tensions that come with being South Asian in America. Around the same time, Indian American actor Kal Penn tweeted images of racist scripts offered to him at the beginning of his acting career. The two pieces, juxtaposed together, offer a handy depiction of hate: a dehumanization project that begins with media stereotyping and logically concludes in racist violence.
