Brisbane could be about to get its first superhero-inspired residential building. No, really.
Developers Pointcorp recently lodged an application to build an apartment building on the banks of the river which draws inspiration, in part, from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy.
The proposed building would be broken up into the four different sections: the water garden, verandah, entrance, and cave.

According to reference images submitted by architects Elenberg Fraser, the entrance would feature multipurpose areas with communal spaces and car parks that would resemble the Batcave in 2008 film, The Dark Knight.
BrisbaneDevelopment.com editor Eric David didn’t think the similarities ended there. “I think they have created a story around that and that’s going to tie into the marketing further down the track,” he said.
He speculated that the use of stacked stone, bare concrete, and darker materials was intended to invoke memories of the Nolan-era Gotham city.

“It’s a dark moody style and that’s very traditional Pointcorp, they do a lot of that,” Mr David said. “This one definitely has a Batman tone.”
When viewed from above, the building also looked a bit like a bat’s wing too, he said, praising the ingenuity of the design.
“Developers need to be doing different things like that,” he said. “People don’t want that cookie cutter apartment.”

The proposed building’s 22 residences would be targeted at the higher-end apartment market, but Mr David was confident there would be some overlap between luxury buyers and Batman fans.
“That luxury market in general is going really strong,” he said. “There’s a lot of demographic in that area that’d go for it. There’s lots of professionals and directors in the 40s to 50s age bracket.”
