A 29-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after he was shot outside a house in Sydney's south-west on Sunday in what is believed to be a targeted attack.

Emergency services were called to Torrens Street in Canley Vale about 3.40pm on Sunday after reports that shots had been fired.

NSW Ambulance said the man had suffered a single gunshot wound to his right hip.

Witness Elsie Davis told Seven News that the victim had "blood all over his arms and shirt and was holding on to the right side of him".

"Blood was just pouring, I was shaking up and didn't know what to think," she said.
