San Diego /ˌsæn diːˈeɪɡoʊ/ (Spanish for "Saint Didacus") is a major city in California, on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California, approximately 120 miles (190 km) south of Los Angeles and immediately adjacent to the border with Mexico.
With an estimated population of 1,381,069 as of July 1, 2014, San Diego is the eighth-largest city in the United States and second-largest in California. San Diego is the birthplace of California and is known for its mild year-round climate, natural deep-water harbor, extensive beaches, long association with the U.S. Navy, and recent emergence as a healthcare and biotechnology development center.
Historically home to the Kumeyaay people, San Diego was the first site visited by Europeans on what is now the West Coast of the United States. Upon landing in San Diego Bay in 1542, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo claimed the entire area for Spain, forming the basis for the settlement of Alta California 200 years later. The Presidio and Mission of San Diego, founded in 1769, formed the first European settlement in what is now California. In 1821, San Diego became part of newly independent Mexico, and in 1850, became part of the United States following the Mexican–American War and the admission of California to the union.
A legend is a historical narrative, a symbolic representation of folk belief.
Legend, Legends, The Legend or The Legends may also refer to:
A legend (Latin, legenda, "things to be read") is a narrative of human actions that are perceived both by teller and listeners to take place within human history and to possess certain qualities that give the tale verisimilitude. Legend, for its active and passive participants includes no happenings that are outside the realm of "possibility" but which may include miracles. Legends may be transformed over time, in order to keep it fresh and vital, and realistic. Many legends operate within the realm of uncertainty, never being entirely believed by the participants, but also never being resolutely doubted.
The Brothers Grimm defined legend as folktale historically grounded. A modern folklorist's professional definition of legend was proposed by Timothy R. Tangherlini in 1990:
Legend is a loanword from Old French that entered English usage circa 1340. The Old French noun legende derives from the Medieval Latin legenda. In its early English-language usage, the word indicated a narrative of an event.
Downtown San Diego, also referred to as Centre City, is the city center of San Diego, California, the eighth largest city in the United States. In 2010, the Centre City area itself had a population of more than 28,000. Founded in 1850, downtown San Diego serves as the cultural, financial center and central business district of San Diego County with more than 4,000 businesses and nine districts.
The city of San Diego was originally focused in Old Town near the Presidio, several miles north of current Downtown. The location was not ideal because it was several miles from navigable water. In 1849 Lt. Andrew B. Gray, a surveyor working with the boundary commission to establish the boundaries of the new state of California, suggested that an area closer to San Diego Bay would be a better location for a city because it would be better for trade. He proposed the idea to William Heath Davis, who recruited four other investors. The partners under Davis's leadership purchased 160 acres (65 ha) of land in what is now Downtown San Diego. They laid out a street plan for New Town and built a wharf and warehouse. Several people built houses there, including the still-standing William Heath Davis House, now a museum.John Judson Ames wrote a prospectus for a newspaper, the San Diego Herald in December of 1850, soliciting advertisements and subscriptions from the towns-people; the first issue was published on May 29, 1851. However, New Town did not do well due to a lack of fresh water, a financial depression in 1851, and opposition from the established settlements in Old Town and La Playa.
Skip Frye (b. Harry Richard Frye, September 7, 1941 in San Diego, California) is a surfer, surfboard designer and shaper, and environmental activist.
Skip attended Mission Bay High School and began his professional surfing career in 1958. His first board was a balsa board shaped by legend Mike Diffenderfer. Skip rode professionally for G&S surfboards and eventually created his own model for them in 1967. Skip captured national titles and represented the United States team internationally in 1966. Frye has appeared on many magazine covers including Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue (1969, with model Jamee Becker), The Surfer's Journal, Surfing, and Surfer Magazine.
Skip is known for his gliding, fluid style as well as some of the most in-demand surfboards in the world. He is perhaps, best recognized by his iconic logo, a set of wings commonly referred to as "Frye Wings." Though once he was in a rough patch in the 70s and couldn't even afford to buy laminates so he started signing his wings in pencil. This is referred to as his "ghetto days", when he shaped surfboards behind Select Surf Shop in Pacific Beach. Iconic images of him surfing with his dog, silhouetted against a setting sun, and paddling alone into "The Ranch" have appeared in books and magazines and have been printed on clothing and surfboards. Skip is also known for his innovation with foiled surfboard fins. After a surfing trip to Australia in 1969, he developed his trademark board shapes: the Egg, Fish, and specialized longboard shapes. He has developed a moderate temperature surf wax ("Man Wax"), ideal for his native San Diego waters.

Pacific Beach boardwalk blading legend Slomo recently blew up, thanks to a documentary by director Joshua Izenberg that took home honors at the SXSW and Big Sky film festivals before being featured in the New York Times. A feature which heavily featured Slomo's signature blade moves and personal creed -- "Do what you want." Who can't support that? On a recent Saturday we headed to the beach, hoping for a chance to session with what could be the most famous rollerblader in the world. Well, it worked out. From dancing with fellow beach-goers to slapping high-fives or posing for pictures with fans, Slomo practices what he preaches and celebrates the hell out of life… all from the rosy perch atop his tallboy blades. Here's a look at our time rolling with the one-and-only Slomo… For ...

http://bookinghunter.com San Diego, California, is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the United States and, arguably, one of the most beautiful. The whitewashed stucco buildings give a Mediterranean-style flavor to the architecture while the culture has a decidedly Mexican influence to it (Tijuana is just a short drive over the border). Despite this foreign-country look and feel, the city of San Diego is uniquely American and a truly memorable place to visit. The most important places to visit in San Diego are: Mission Beach, Balboa Park (one of the greatest urban parks of the world. With museums and gardens inside the park, you can spend days there), Hotel Del Coronado (an amazing ocean front hotel and historic national landmark. It has hosted top celebrities, like Marilyn Mo...

Travel video about destination San Diego in the United States of America. For some, San Diego, a coastal city with a wonderful climate, is California's southernmost city, for others it is the northernmost city in Mexico. It is not quite as predictable as other U.S. metropolises and even the skyline promises something different. Palm trees, colorful flowerbeds and wonderful sandy beaches are typical of Southern California and are an open invitation to surfing and relaxation. The exclusivity of the beaches exudes an aura of luxurious living and the grand houses of the Coronado district are among the city's most prestigious. The long distance trains that travel through Amtrak Station connect San Diego with many other Californian cities and also with the bordering city of Santa Fe. The red t...

November 9, 2012 www.LifeofBrennan.com There are moments in life when you just need to be bold and follow your heart. For me it came just before the end of my sophomore year of college. I realized I was on a path where I’d most likely graduate, get a job, start a family, and work until retirement, and where many people may aspire to have all this, I knew I needed something different. With the help of a cousin I was able to get connected with an orphanage in Guatemala where I could volunteer. So I took a semester off and flew to Central America to begin what would be a life changing experience. I once heard that life is 10 percent of what happens to us and 90 percent of how we react to it, and by being immersed in that culture and living with those children I learned this lesson first...

In this episode, Rush and Ali are hunting fish in the same waters where the sea claimed so many lives in the past. They meet up with Dan Porter, another modern day treasure hunter and get to see what it takes to hunt treasure aboard his boat, the Sea Reaper. But modern day shipwrecks hold treasure of another type, though just as addicting. Cobia, grouper, snapper and more are the goal and X marks the spo...
