The driver of a car that crashed into a Fortitude Valley construction site on Friday afternoon has been charged with low-range drink-driving.
At 6.30pm, police said a crane had arrived on scene to secure the overhead walkway, which was left hanging dangerously over the car.
However, Barry Parade was expected to remain closed until at least 8.30pm during the lengthy clean-up process.
The vehicle crashed into supporting scaffolding on Barry Parade about 4.20pm, causing the walkway to nearly collapse, and fire crews used a winch to stabilise the structure.
Police closed Barry Parade shortly after the crash and put diversions in place, but delays were affecting Water Street, Bridge Street and St Paul's Terrace.
Motorists were being urged to avoid the area and no one else was injured.
The 21-year-old Rochedale South man charged with drink-driving was expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on April 12.
