Fulltime at CBUS Super Stadium: SYDNEY ROOSTERS 32 GOLD COAST 18

SYDNEY Roosters have coasted to a comfortable win over Gold Coast after leading 28-0 at halftime, with centre Latrell Mitchell posting his first career hat-trick.

Mitchell completed his hat-trick on the bell after the Titans had narrowed the margin to 10, with Jarryd Hayne's try a rare involvement from the cross-code superstar.

COMMENT: Sydney Roosters are going to have a very, very strong season. The Titans? They'll improve. Jarryd Hayne was worryingly quiet.

78 min: Mitchell try

Daniel Tupou fields a bomb and flicks the ball to Latrell Mitchell, who gets his first career hat-trick. The Roosters have emerged from their second-half funk. The goal isn't there. Sydney Roosters 32-18.

62 min: Hayne try, Taylor goal

Jarryd Hayne isn't "disinterested". That means unbiased on impartial. Perhaps he was uninterested until now but the former San Francisco 49er has flown high to field a kick and claim another Gold Coast try. Ash Taylor converts. Sydney Roosters 28-18.

51 min: Elgey try, Taylor goal

Ash Taylor's bomb causes a couple of Roosters to collide and the ball bounces before landing in the arms of Kane Elgey. Ash Taylor is taking the conversion from pretty much in front. Surely there can't be comeback here, can there? It would equal the record, I think. The goal is good. Sydney Roosters 28-12.

48 min: Donn No Try

Don's right elbow goes into touch as he claims a try just inside the right cornerpost. The on-field decision is reversed. Sydney Roosters 28-6.

43 min: Don try, Taylor goal

A big hit by Konrad Hurrell on Michael Gordon jolts the ball loose and Anthony Don streaks away with Daniel Tupou unable to reel him in. Ashley Taylor seems OK now - he's taking the kick and he gets it. Sydney Roosters 28-6.

Second half underway

Gold Coast with the ball, running towards the north. Sydney Roosters 22-0.

Halftime at CBUS Super Stadium: SYDNEY ROOSTERS 28 GOLD COAST 0

NEW look Sydney Roosters are giving Gold Coast a rugby league lesson at CBUS Super Stadium, with Luke Keary and Latrell Mitchell each having already registered doubles by halftime.

Another new man, Michael Gordon is making an immediate impact while halfback Mitchell Pearce is making up for time lost during a disciplinary suspension last year.

There are preliminary reports of a serious injury to Gold Coast's Ash Taylor.

39 min: Mitchell try, Gordon goal

Latrell Mitchell has his second after an inside pass from Daniel Tupou. Mitchell was the previous player in the movement too. Michael Gordon converts. Wow, this is embarrassing for the Tit's. Sydney Roosters 28-0.

36 min: Gordon try, goal

Taking a pass from Mitchell Pearce around 30 metres out, the fullback Gordon turns defender Kane Elgey inside out. Ashley Taylor has a knee injury of some sort. Michael Gordon to convert his own try - and it's there. Sydney Roosters 22-0.

31 min: Keary try, Gordon goal

Luke Keary is having something of a holiday on the Gold Coast. He finds a hole in the Titans defence on the right side of the posts and slices through. Gordon's kick is good. Sydney Roosters 16-0.

12 min: Mitchell try

Mitchell Pearce and Luke Keary used a dummy runner to great effect on the left, with Latrell Mitchell reaping the benefits with a try. The Roosters look strong this year, don't they? This game seems a bit flat in comparison to the last one. Michael Gordon from out near the touchline ... and he misses. Sydney Roosters 10-0.

8 min: Keary try, Gordon goal

The recruit from South Sydney throws a dummy, spins out of a tackle and dives over for the Roosters' first try of the year. Michael Gordon with the conversion attempt now. Another new recruit, he converts. Sydney Roosters 6-0.

The Roosters have a chance on the left with Luke Keary heavily involved. The ball bounces off a shoulder and out over the western touchline. 0-0.

Kick-off

We're a few minutes in at Robina. Gold Coast 0 Sydney Roosters 0.

Fulltime at 1300SMILES Stadium: NORTH QUEENSLAND 20 CANBERRA 16 in golden point time

A bounce that seemed to defy the laws of physics has given North Queensland victory in the first golden point game of the new-born NRL season.

Stopped like Donald Bradman on 1999 career points, Johnathan Thurston first missed a penalty goal that would have assured the Cowboys victory over Canberra, then a field goal at the end of regulation time with the scores 16-16.

A third shot at breaking the barrier three minutes into overtime saw the ball hit the crossbar, bounce into the in-goal and pull up dead - where team-mate Gavin Cooper won the race to claim it.

And who looked like he was going to get there first? Why, Thurston himself! Still on 1999 points.

83 min: Cooper try

Johnathan Thurston's field goal attempt hits the crossbar and the ball bounces into the in-goal, pulls up short of the dead ball line, and Gavin Cooper wins the race to the Steeden. By any standards, this is pretty remarkable stuff. The Cowboys win! North Queensland 20-16.

76 min: Leilua try

Joey Leilua wins the race for a ball lolling in the Cowboys' in-goal after a kick from captain Josh Hodgson. A kick, now, to tie the game. Aiden Sezer has landed the goal.16-16.

70 min: Bowen try

And Javid Bowen may have sealed a victory here. Leilua tried one of his miracle flick passes and Bowen took the intercept and raced half the length of the field to score, beating the cover of Santo. Thurston's conversion would have allowed him to pass the 2000 point barrier - but he misses from his favourite side. Fantastic contest, this. North Queensland 16-10.

65 min: Hess try,Thurston goal

Coen Hess ties things up by spinning after his initial collision with the defence, with Johnathan Thurston throwing the final pass. Thurston's conversion is good Clay Priest is back on the field. North Queensland 12-10.
