1. Create SolydXK USB on Windows 7

Prerequisites
This video shows how to use UnetBootin to create a bootable USB with SolydXK.
However, there are alternatives:

  • For Windows only: Win 32 Disk Imager
  • Old school, use dd: 
    dd if=path_to_iso of=path_to_usbstick bs=4M && sync

    where path to usb stick takes the /dev/sdxyz form and xyz is replaced by the letters identifying the usb drive. The letter identifying the usb drive may be found with: 

    sudo fdisk -l

Download UnetBootin from: sourceforge.

After reboot you need to select the USB boot option in the BIOS menu (usually you need to hit ESC or F8 during boot) and select your USB drive to boot from.

 

2. Install SolydXK on your system

In this tutorial we’ll show you how simple it is to install SolydXK on your system.

 

3. Persistent USB with encrypted home partition

In this tutorial we create a persistent SolydX USB with an encrypted home partition and UEFI. Depending on the pen drive and USB version the installation can take a while. It took me almost two hours to finish.

You will need at least a 8GB USB pen drive, a SolydX or SolydK ISO and GParted and Virtual Box installed on your system.

Make sure you have live-installer-3 version 2016.03.05 or above installed. The latest nightly builds include this version but you can also install it during the live session by running these terminal commands: 

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install live-installer-3

 

4. Update your system

SolydXK comes with the SolydXK Update Manager installed. It sits in your system tray and lets you know when there are updates available for your system.

 

5. Install drivers on SolydXK with DDM

Device Driver Manager (DDM) makes it easy to install your drivers, and is pre-installed on SolydXK.

 

6. Install Office 2010 on SolydK

Prerequisites
To install MS Office 2010, you need to install PlayOnLinux. PlayOnLinux lets you install numerous Windows applications with just a few clicks.
SolydK comes with PlayOnLinux pre-installed. In the other SolydXK editions, you can install PlayOnLinux with the Software Manager, or in terminal: 

sudo apt-get install playonlinux

 

7. Install software on SolydXK

Browse or search for software and a single click to install. It doesn’t require much more than that to get started.
