Night

Night or nighttime (sp. night-time or night time) is the period of time between the sunset and the sunrise when the Sun is below the horizon.

This occurs after dusk. The opposite of night is day (or "daytime" to distinguish it from "day" as used for a 24-hour period). The start and end points of time of a night vary based on factors such as season, latitude, longitude and timezone.

At any given time, one side of the planet Earth is bathed in light from the Sun (the daytime) and the other side of the Earth is in the shadow caused by the Earth blocking the light of the sun. This shadow is called the umbra. Natural illumination is still provided by a combination of moonlight, planetary light, starlight, diffuse zodiacal light, gegenschein, and airglow. In some circumstances, bioluminescence, aurorae, and lightning can provide some illumination. The glow provided by artificial illumination is sometimes referred to as light pollution because it can interfere with observational astronomy and ecosystems.

Matthew Koma (born Matthew Bair, June 2, 1987) is an American singer, songwriter and DJ born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island, New York. Inspired by Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen, Koma started his music career in punk rock, later transitioning into a mixture of genres ranging from Pop and Hip Hop to Electronic Dance Music. Koma's early collaborations include work with Hardwell, Zedd, Miriam Bryant, Sebastian Ingrosso, Alesso, Tiesto, Vicetone and Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic. His collaboration with Zedd has been his most notable accomplishment to date with their song "Spectrum" being premiered by Rolling Stone and spending two weeks at number 1 on the Billboard Dance Club chart.

Career

Koma was noticed by Jimmy Iovine who signed him to Interscope Records after watching an acoustic performance of the record "She". He later released his first EP, Parachute, in May 2012, in which he wrote, produced and co-produced all four tracks with collaborators Twice as Nice, Alex da Kid, Sam Watters, Louis Biancaniello, and Ari Levine. Since then he has taken part in the Sorry For Party Rocking worldwide tour with LMFAO and Far East Movement, and more recently finished touring with the band Owl City. In March 2012, Bruce Springsteen released "Rocky Ground," a remix that Koma co-produced with Ron Aniello as a single from his album Wrecking Ball.
