A Roving Reporter Tour Event
35th Anniversary Celebration
The Edmonton Chinese Bilingual Education Association celebration took place last night in the Dynasty Century Palace Restaurant in Edmonton. We were at a table quite close to the stage. Details of the evening can be found here.
The place was packed. There was a 'non-stop' supply of food. The entertainment was fantastic, mostly younger students from the various schools which have the Chinese bilingual program. After the meal the youngest children were invited to stand around a cake that was decorated in the ECBEA colours.
The picture of the bird was done by the artist while we ate our meals and was then auctioned off. It was about 2 feet wide and 31/2 or so feet tall. She will create another one on Saturday evening’s event.

Saturday Sessions March 11th Presents
This week's Mark Ammar's Saturday Sessions show 663 guests - Two Road Town.
This is a project being that has been evolving for a long time. Travis Matthews is a coming of age musician who is establishing himself on the open mic circuit around Alberta. He hosts the open mic at The Arcadia every second Thursday. His Dad Gord Matthews has been a touring recording musician for 30 yrs and has worked with many national artists. They have the combination of a modern mind set rooted to decades of experience.
At the moment they're mixing newer cover tunes with some original and are looking to have some fun and see what develops. Travis is proficient on bass, harmonica and acoustic guitar while Gord covers the electric and gets around a bit on the mandolin. Both are quality song writers and share the singing. They have an excellent blend when they harmonize. Two Road Town plans to have a regular lineup by May of 2017 but could show up anywhere there's live music in the meantime to try out some ideas. - Mark Ammar 780-217-9787.

The Badge
03/11/17 02:50
An FBI agent tells a Montana rancher, 'I need to inspect your ranch for illegal grown drugs.' The old rancher says, 'Okay, but don't go in that field over there.'
The agent verbally explodes saying, 'Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me.' Reaching into his rear pant pocket and removing his badge. The officer proudly displays it to the farmer. 'See this badge? This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish, on any land. No questions asked or answered given. Have I made myself clear? Do you understand?’
The old rancher nods politely and goes about his chores.
Later, the old rancher hears loud screams and spies the agent running for his life and close behind is the rancher's bull. With every step the bull is gaining ground on the agent. The agent is clearly terrified.
The old rancher immediately throws down his tools, runs to the fence and yells at the top of his lungs ... 'Your badge! Show him your badge!'

Koi Hanako - Longest Living Fish
03/11/17 02:50
At 226 years old, koi Hanako was the longest living fish ever recorded. Koi Hanako was a beautiful scarlet coloured female fish in Japan. Her name Hanako is translated “flower girl” in Japanese. Hanako died in July 7, 1977 at a grand old age of 226. Born in 1751, Hanako was born in the first year of Horeki, in the middle of the Tokugawa Era. This makes Hanako older than the United States of America!
In May 25 1966, Dr. Komei Koshihara, the last owner of koi Hanako, made a broadcast to the whole Japanese nation through Nippon Hoso Kyokai radio station about the story of koi Hanako. At this time, Hanako was 215 years old weighing 7.5 kilograms and 70 centimeters long. He explained that the koi was passed down from his grandmother on his maternal side, who had inherited the fish from “olden times.” Dr. Koshihara described Hanako as his dearest friend.
