Once in a Lifetime and Once Upon a Time

“All our work is about freedom. Nobody can buy our projects, nobody can sell tickets to experience our projects. Freedom is the enemy of possession and possession is equal to permanence. That is why our projects cannot remain and must go away forever. Our projects are ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ and ‘once upon a time.’”Christo and Jeanne-Claude

Writing Begins with Self-Forgiveness

Paintings by Alexandre Cabanel

“..We read a lot about different writers’ eccentric processes – but what about those crucial moments before we put pen to paper? For me, writing always begins with self-forgiveness. I don’t sit down and rush headlong into the blank page. I make coffee. I put on a song I like. I drink the coffee, listen to the song. I don’t write. Beginning with forgiveness revolutionizes the writing process, returns it being to a journey of creativity rather than an exercise in self-flagellation.  I forgive myself for not sitting down to write sooner, for taking yesterday off, for living my life. That shame? I release it. My body unclenches; a new lightness takes over once that burden has floated off. There is room, now, for story, idea, life.

I put my hands on the keyboard and begin.”  - Daniel José Older

That’s the ending, now let’s start from the beginning..

/2016

“Life is pure adventure, and the sooner we realize that, the quicker we will be able to treat life as art: to bring all our energies to each encounter, to remain flexible enough to notice and admit when what we expected to happen did not happen. We need to remember that we are created creative and can invent new scenarios as frequently as they are needed.”                                                — M. Angelou

Here’s to a new year of adventures. ♥

So Long, Fertile Solitude

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and Fertile Solitude is no exception to the idiom.

Although the walls may be down and the gallery is restored to a blank canvas for future dreamers, the exhibition lives on through images.

So let’s end 2016 on a high note with some maze memories to keep us warm through the winter..
