Hollywood star and hotel heiress Paris Hilton arrived in Manila Sunday (14 AUG. 2011) for a five-day visit where she is scheduled to discuss designing a beach resort for a real-estate firm.
The celebrity socialite was greeted by dozens of local and foreign press together with airport employees and other arriving passengers.
"We were really trying to squeeze our way with all the crowd just to get a glimpse of Miss Paris Hilton''s face," said an airport employee, Ferdie Ramos.
Reports say that the popular model may also meet with Manny Pacquiao and his wife.

Manila (
i/məˈnɪl.ə/) is the capital city of the Philippines. It is the home to extensive commerce and seats the executive and judicial branches of the Filipino government. It also contains vast amount of significant architectural and cultural landmarks in the country. Manila is one of the sixteen cities that makes up Metro Manila, the National Capital Region of the Philippines. Manila is on the eastern shore of Manila Bay. According to the 2010 census, Manila is the second most populous city in the Philippines with a population of 1,652,171. Manila is the most densely populated city in the world with 42,857 people per square kilometer.
Manila has six representative districts for the lower house of the Philippine Congress. Furthermore, the city is composed of 16 districts, namely: Binondo, Ermita, Intramuros, Malate, Paco, Pandacan, Port Area, Quiapo, Sampaloc, San Andres, San Miguel, San Nicolas, Santa Ana, Santa Cruz, Santa Mesa and Tondo.

Here's my part 2 of Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Manila. I was given a hotel by Turkish Airlines which gave me the chance to explore Istanbul on a longer layover. The flight from Istanbul Ataturk Airport to Manila is around 10 hours and 45 minutes. It was my first time riding the Airbus A340. Seats were quite old as well as the IFE. Verdict: I had a very pleasant flight with PAL. What I love flying PAL on domestic flight is the feeling of a world class service by the cabin crew, the feeling of flying on an international flight as well. Passengers are always served with a smile and very generous when serving drinks on this short sector.
One way fare on PAL's Premium Economy is around 5,000 pesos that includes 30 kilos of baggage, priority tagging of bags, access to Mabuhay Lounge, 100% mileage accrual and if you wish to refund, there's no fees for refund. On the ground, the check-in team were very efficient and fast when processing my boarding pass. Boarding was called in the lounge and as a premium economy passenger, you get priority boarding as well. So Kudos to PAL for improving the service of handling passengers.

Happy 2017 everyone. I hope you like this video which I took last November 2016 from Cebu to Manila on PAL's Airbus A330 on premium economy class. Please enjoy the flight review.

Verdict: I had a very pleasant flight with PAL. What I love flying PAL on domestic flight is the feeling of a world class service by the cabin crew, the feeling of flying on an international flight as well. Passengers are always served with a smile and very generous when serving drinks on this short sector.
One way fare on PAL's Premium Economy is around 5,000 pesos that includes 30 kilos of baggage, priority tagging of bags, access to Mabuhay Lounge, 100% mileage accrual and if you wish to refund, there's no fees for refund. On the ground, the check-in team were very efficient and fast when processing my boarding pass. Boarding was called in the lounge and as a premium economy passenger, you get priority boarding as well. So Kudos to PAL for improving the service of handling passengers.

Here's my part 2 of Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Manila. I was given a hotel by Turkish Airlines which gave me the chance to explore Istanbul on a longer layover. The flight from Istanbul Ataturk Airport to Manila is around 10 hours and 45 minutes. It was my first time riding the Airbus A340. Seats were quite old as well as the IFE. However the service of the flight attendants were superb especially the meal service. Enjoy!

Ethiopian cuisine is healthy and I'm curious to learn more about Teff and the injera bread. I'm now craving for Berbere and curious on what real Mitmita spice would taste like.
I must commend the thoughtful food and wine pairing throughout the Ethiopian dinner.

Philippines has a gun culture and shooting sports are popular, and accepted like any other sports activity.
I tried the Armscor MAPP1 9mm (aka Tanfoglio Force or CZ 75 copy), and Armcor 1911 in .40 S&W;.
The Armscor range and gun hire prices at the time were PHP1500 each firearm. Comes with paper targets, eye, and ear protection, and you are supervised by a range and safety officer. Pistols came with 50 rounds of factory lead reloads, pump action shotguns came with 12 rounds. I did not try the shotgun. This was actually a well priced and modern indoor range at the time, with good customer service and helpful staff. Other ranges I investigated were more expensive, and had lower standards.
Regarding the street people in Makati Manila, I bought many of them rice and stir fry dinners and clean drinking water. I interviewed a few of them off camera and they all confirmed they had come to that area for the holiday and tourist season to try beg for money from foreigners. They were there by choice, and went back to their provinces after new years.
Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
Its important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
Its common for taxi drivers in Manila to try rip you off. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start if you know what it costs to your location. Otherwise find another taxi!
Shopping mall culture, locals love the mall for the aircon and to get out of the heat.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be tough, but be respectful and polite about it. Shop around, you can often get a better price.
"Tip" can also mean bribe, so don't be afraid to ask what you're paying for upfront. Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip.
The average basic worker earns PHP 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.

I interviewed a few of them off camera and they all confirmed they had come to that area for the holiday and tourist season to try beg for money from foreigners. They were there by choice, and went back to their provinces after new years.
Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
Its important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
Its common for taxi drivers in Manila to try rip you off. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start if you know what it costs to your location. Otherwise find another taxi!
Shopping mall culture, locals love the mall for the aircon and to get out of the heat.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be tough, but be respectful and polite about it. Shop around, you can often get a better price.
"Tip" can also mean bribe, so don't be afraid to ask what you're paying for upfront. Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip.
The average basic worker earns PHP 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.

The WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific celebrated World Health Day 2013 by honouring Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III for his outstanding contributions to public health. The day's theme was hypertension, or high blood pressure, which is linked to the epidemic of noncommunicable diseases that accounts for 80% of deaths in the WHO Western Pacific Region.
World Health Day marks the entry into force of the World Health Organization's constitution on 7 April 1948. The celebration at the Regional Office in Manila took place on the 65th World Health Day. WHO recognized Mr Aquino for his support of universal health coverage, reproductive health and higher taxes and prices on tobacco and alcohol. Twenty-five years earlier, the Organization had celebrated World Health Day 1988 with his mother, the late Philippines President Corazon Aquino, also a champion of public health.
During the event, WHO staff simultaneously responded to a public health emergency—an outbreak of avian influenza in China.

Not knowing very much about the Philippines before I visited, I was pleasantly surprised by Manila and Subic and how they both reminded me of America. The highlight of the trip was getting a chance to visit a Vietnamese boat people refugee camp near Baataan. I met some friendly Pinoys too. The food was great. The transportation readily available. And the landscape extremely beautiful. Here are a few customs and etiquette to be aware of during your visit to the Phillipines. Filipinos value honor. The concept of hiya or shame requires one to behave in a manner that will not shame the person or the family. Handshake is common when meeting someone. If elders are present, acknowledge them first. Address people formally indicating their profession or using their last names. In discussions Filipinos tend to be non-confrontational. People will not directly say no.
In making appointments, Filipinos tend to be more forgiving. If you arrive 15 to 20 minutes late, unless you are attending a business function. If you ever receive a gift, open it afterwards, not in front of the person who gave it to you. When it comes to tipping, 10 percent of the bill is typical in most situations, unless it is already included. In that case you can give a small change.
