Jeff M. Smith

Jeff M. Smith is the Director of Asian Security Programs and the Kraemer Strategy Fellow at the American Foreign Policy Council (AFPC). He is the author of Cold Peace: Sino-Indian Rivalry in the 21st Century (Lexington Books, 2014) and contributing author or editor of a half-dozen books and monographs on Asian security issues. Smith has testified as an expert witness before the U.S. Congress, including the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committees, as well as the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission. He regularly provides briefings for Members of Congress and their staff, as well as agencies and departments in the Executive Branch. He has served in an advisory role for multiple presidential campaigns and his writing on Asian security issues has appeared in Foreign Affairs, the Wall Street JournalForeign Policy, USA Today, CNN, the Harvard International Review, Jane’s Intelligence ReviewThe National Interest and The Diplomat, among others. In recent years he has been interviewed and cited by the New York TimesThe Economist, Reuters, the BBC, and TIME Magazine, among others.
