Arizona (i/ɛrɪˈzoʊnə/; /ærɪˈzoʊnə/) (Navajo: Hoozdo Hahoodzo; O'odham: Alĭ ṣonak) is a state in the southwestern region of the United States. It is also part of the Western United States and of the Mountain West states. It is the sixth largest and the 14th most populous of the 50 states. Its capital and largest city is Phoenix. Arizona is one of the Four Corners states. It has borders with New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, and Mexico, and one point in common with the southwestern corner of Colorado. Arizona's border with Mexico is 389 miles (626 km) long, on the northern border of the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California.
Arizona is the 48th state and last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the Union, achieving statehood on February 14, 1912. It was previously part of the territory of Alta California in New Spain before being passed down to independent Mexico and later ceded to the United States after the Mexican–American War. The southernmost portion of the state was acquired in 1853 through the Gadsden Purchase.

Arizona, land of cowboys and Indians and Wild West towns plus, among its many natural wonders, the all pervasive colour red as displayed by the awe-inspiring rock formations of its mighty canyons.A thousand years ago the highly-cultured Anasazi and Hohokam Indians lived here, planting maize and vegetables in the meagre valleys and building walled towns into the cliffs of the canyons. They used the natural environment, protected caves in natural rock walls, which were accessible only by simple wooden ladders. For the past century, scientists from all over the world have investigated evidence that a gigantic meteorite crashed here, leaving behind it a huge crater: Met...

In this travel video guide to Scottsdale, Arizona, I travel to Scottsdale, the so-called "Miami Beach" of Arizona. Located just to the east of Phoenix, Scottsdale is home to some of the city's best restaurants, bars, hotels and attractions. I start of my travel in Scottsdale visiting downtown, otherwise known as "Old Town," the very walkable central part of the city full of small shops and a booming restaurant scene. It is also here that the city's roots can be traced back to the original farmers and settlers that called this otherwise barren part of the desert home back in the early 1900's. I then head east into Tonto National Park to go kayaking down the Salt River with Arizona Outback Adventures (AOA), the area's premiere outdoor adventure company. Next, I visit Taliesin West, the...

Cathedral Rock is a famous landmark on the Sedona, Arizona skyline, and is one of the most-photographed sights in Arizona. Geologically, Cathedral Rock is carved from the Permian Schnebly Hill formation, a redbed sandstone formed from coastal sand dunes near the shoreline of the ancient Pedregosa Sea. Ripple marks are prominent along the lower Cathedral Rock trail, and a black basalt dike may be seen in the first saddle. The natural beauty of Cathedral Rock has been drawing spiritual visitors for decades and Cathedral Rock is considered one of the strongest Vortexes in Sedona. While I don't subscribe to vortexes I will admit I have always been drawn to the rock, and for the last few years I've always tried to shoot some timelapse segments when I'm there. Most of these I haven't published...

In 2013 a cross - RPRP, (Rural People, Rural Policy), collaboration between the Southwest Rural Policy Network, (SWRPN), and the Mid-South Network, (MSN) took place. The project conducted included a cross-region, multi-culture, intergenerational dialogue via SKYPE which took place in five communities; Greenville, MS, Indianola, MS, Ajo, AZ, Nogales, AZ and Gallup, NM. During the dialogue, the positive and negative impacts of food policies on healthy food choices were explored from a cultural perspective via a discussion of the history and traditions of our food. In addition, through the dialogue questions, we introduced the idea that food policies shape and determine healthy food choices and that culture should be taken into consideration when food policy is being crafted. Because insects account for more than half of all described species and have profound effects on our history and culture, knowledge of their contributions and influences is important. Ecologically, insects provide tremendous benefits and equally daunting challenges. They provide critical biological services in pollination, natural products, pest-population regulation, and human nutrition. Insects are also our chief competitors for food, and act as parasites and vectors of human disease, the source of much human misery. The impacts of insects on humans, both positive and negative, are also reflected in music, literature, art, and entertainment. In this class we will explore the diverse ways in which the lives of insects and humans are intertwined. Specific topics we will address include: ...

It was talk for a while but became more serious in the last year. Joe and I wanted to share our fascination with Route 66 and the people we'd meet along the way. We had a "postcard" trip through 13 states with our focus on the Southwest. We stayed in a traditional Navajo hogan in Monument Valley, a "haunted" hotel in Williams, a classic 50's motel in Moriarty, and the Wigwams in Holbrook. We saw natural history wonders, roadside attractions, abandoned places, and local culture. We met an...

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer must decide soon Arizona will establish a state-run health insurance exchange or let the federal government be in charge of providing that service to Arizona residents. It's a key part of the Affordable Care Act, President Obama's health-reform law. Suzanne Kinney, Executive Director of the Arizona Chamber Foundation, a research and education arm of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, explains how a health insurance exchange works and what happens if Arizona decides not to operate its own exchange.
MESA, Arizona - Good old father's advice and simple foods are credited with helping a Valley man reach a milestone birthday. "Eat properly and get your rest," recommends Bernando LaPallo. Words to live by considering the Mesa resident was born in Brazil in 1901 and has lived to be 110 years old. "They had no automobiles, no airplanes I saw them all come about," remembered LaPallo. LaPallo claims he's never been sick a day in his life. He walks every morning and eats mostly organic fruits and veggies. "People ask me what do you do to stay so young," LaPallo explained. "I say, 'Well you've heard the old saying, you are what you eat.'" So what's LaPallo's secret? Five foods: garlic, honey, cinnamon, chocolate and olive oil. "Use olive oil on your skin," LaPallo said. "Rub your feet...

The State of Arizona has been working to modernize its eligibility system for Medicaid, SNAP and TANF to increase efficiency and provide a better customer experience for Arizonans. This is an exciting time; I hope you're as excited as I am about the changes that are coming! Please take a moment to watch this short video -- the second in a series of messages about the changes to Medicaid and our new Health-e-Arizona Plus program. The Trump administration has used Arizona as a case study on the negative effects of Obamacare, as some premiums there have risen sharply. But the Republican health plan could cause 400,000 people in the red state to lose Medicaid coverage. Dean Reynolds reports. This is a film about a young family and one of their biggest adventures. In the spring of 2013, Katrin and Lars Schneider, adventure sports photographers from Hamburg, Germany, flew to California with their eight-months old son Fietje, bought a 1971 VW Westfalia camper van and started a road trip through the US Southwest. The three of them travelled for two months, drove their van around 5.500 kilometers and explored the beautiful nature of the Southwest. They went from California to Nevada and Utah and back to California via Arizona. Along the way they payed a visit to many of the beautiful State and National Parks like Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Valley of Fire, Bryce, Zion and the Grand Canyon. They experienced family life on the road and the happiness of life without luxury but wit...

2012-2013 was an incredible season for the Arizona Wildcats. I had the great fortune of filming countless events with their new Sony FS700. Now in the off season, I actually had time to put together an all sports FS700 video. 95% of the video is shot on the FS700, a couple shots are from my 7D, and a couple shots are from the TV truck. We need to make sure and include all the sports at the University of Arizona and all the major athletes as well. I filmed just about every shot in the video and edited it myself using Adobe Premiere Pro and Magic Bullet Looks for color correcting. Music is "Last Man Standing" by People in Planes. Hope you enjoy! It was quite a year and I'm looking forward to another one!

On September 11th 2015 I took the Texas Eagle Amtrak train from LA to Austin. The train passes through the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, taking nearly 33 hours to complete this leg of the journey, before continuing on up to Chicago. This short film comprises a number of clips I took from the train window, mostly in Arizona and Texas. I highly recommended seeing America this way. From Kayenta we head to Page. Here we will visit the Antylope Canyon. Unlike the majority of other parks, to visit dell'Antylope you need a guide. For this, we booked the tour a few months earlier. We head to the place of origin which is located in Page. Here we see a folkloric show of a Navajo Indian. We climb in trucks and head towards the Antylope Canyon. After having crossed a paved road, we exit on a dirt road where our driver makes us dance a lot '. The Antelope Canyon is a narrow canyon, but easy to cross, with dizzying interior shapes created by wind and water. The only light comes from the top and at certain times of the day gives all'arenaria a beautiful hue. And 'perhaps the most photographed sandstone canyons of northern Arizona. The bright orange and purple colors make it a un...
2.5 months away from home. Exploring the world of comedy outside of New York City. My final adventure was to climb into the Grand Canyon to see the Colorado River and sleep next to it and then climb back out. My good buddy from high school Andrew Shallcross was my guide and travel partner. The deep beaches of the canyon hold a very strange energy. You feel it when you are there listening to the birds and the rapids. You feel as if you are in nature's cathedral. It demands respect. We are all smaller than we think.

I left Arizona with my tear stained cheeks
Your skin on my fingertips
And dust at my feet
Wanting to get away from whatever hurt so much.
Your love
So why don't I love you anymore
Don't I miss you any longer
Don't I need you anymore
Ohhh
Why is it that you don't cross my mind
Is it simply I don't love you
Is it that we've run out of time
What happened b/w the seconds the minutes the ticking hours on the hands
Of the clocks that used to count down time till I saw you again
Those seconds the minutes the ticking hours that flew by
I want it all back
Even if I have to go back
I'll take it all back
Even if I have to go back
I still loved you in alabama
I still missed you in tennessee
Still dreamt of you in carolina
Tell me did you think of me?
I was thinking of you in georgia
From the bottom to the top
But idk what happened
Somehow I forgot
I crossed that state line
And you werent on my mind
So why don't I love you anymore
Don't I miss you any longer
Don't I need you anymore
Ohhh
Why is it that you don't cross my mind
Is it simply I don't love you
Is it that we've run out of time
