Pope Adrian I (Latin: Hadrianus I c. 700 – 25 December 795) was Pope from 1 February 772 to his death in 795. He was the son of Theodore, a Roman nobleman.
Shortly after Adrian's accession in 772, the territory ruled by the papacy was invaded by Desiderius, king of the Lombards, and Adrian was compelled to seek the assistance of the Frankish king Charlemagne, who entered Italy with a large army. Charlemagne besieged Desiderius in his capital of Pavia. After taking the town, he banished the Lombard king to the Abbey of Corbie in France, and adopted the title "King of the Lombards" himself. The pope, whose expectations had been aroused, had to content himself with some additions to the Duchy of Rome, the Exarchate of Ravenna, and the Pentapolis in the Marches, which consisted of the "five cities" on the Adriatic coast from Rimini to Ancona with the coastal plain as far as the mountains. He celebrated the occasion by striking the earliest papal coin, and in a mark of the direction the mediaeval papacy was to take, no longer dated his documents by the Emperor in the east, but by the reign of Charles, king of the Franks.

Pope Adrian IV (Latin: Adrianus IV; c. 1100 – 1 September 1159), born Nicholas Breakspear, was pope from 4 December 1154 to his death in 1159.
Adrian IV is the only Englishman (as of 2016) to have occupied the papal throne. It is believed that he was born in Bedmond in the parish of Abbots Langley in Hertfordshire and received his early education at the Abbey School, St Albans.
Nicholas' father was Robert, who later became a monk at St Albans. Nicholas went to Paris and later became a canon regular of the cloister of St Rufus monastery near Arles. He rose to be prior and was then soon unanimously elected abbot. This election has been traditionally dated to 1137, but evidence from the abbey's chronicles suggests that it happened about 1145.
His reforming zeal as abbot led to the lodging of complaints against him at Rome; but these merely attracted to him the favourable attention of Pope Eugene III, who created him Cardinal Bishop of Albano in December 1149.
The Pope (Latin: papa from Greek: πάππας pappas, a child's word for "father") is the Bishop of Rome and the leader of the worldwide Catholic Church. The primacy of the Roman bishop is largely derived from his role as the traditional successor to Saint Peter, to whom Jesus is supposed to have given the keys of Heaven and the powers of "binding and loosing", naming him as the "rock" upon which the church would be built. The current pope is Francis, who was elected on 13 March 2013, succeeding Benedict XVI.
The office of the Pope is the papacy. His ecclesiastical jurisdiction, the Diocese of Rome, is often called "the Holy See" or "the Apostolic See", the latter name being based upon the belief that the Bishop of Rome is the successor of Peter the Apostle. The Pope is considered one of the world's most powerful people because of his diplomatic and cultural influence. He is also head of state of Vatican City, a sovereign city-state entirely enclaved within the Italian capital city of Rome.
Adrian is a form of the Latin given name Adrianus or Hadrianus. Its ultimate origin is most likely via the former river Adria from the Venetic and Illyrian word adur, meaning 'sea' or 'water'. The Adria was until the 8th century BC the main channel of the Po River into the Adriatic Sea but ceased to exist before the 1st century BC. Hecataeus of Miletus (c.550 - c.476 BC) asserted that both the Etruscan harbor city of Adria and the Adriatic Sea had been named after it. Emperor Hadrian's family was named after the city or region of Adria/Hadria, now Atri, in Picenum, which most likely started as an Etruscan or Greek colony of the older harbor city of the same name.
Several saints and six popes have borne this name, including the only English pope, Adrian IV, and the only Dutch pope, Adrian VI. As an English name, it has been in use since the Middle Ages though it was not popular until modern times.

Rudimentary Peni... this album is hard to find on youtube, so i uploaded my own copy. There is no copyright infringement since i'm not making any money from this. I am sharing it from my own collection, and you should feel free to add it to your own collection. Consider it a gift. Although if you are a fan, you probably already own it. This is one of their most obscure albums, recorded in 1992 and released in 1995...it's very weird, claustrophobic and you can hear the schizophrenia running through Nick's mind...most of it was written while he was detained in an institution. He was under the impression/delusion, that he was the reincarnation of Pope Adrian the 4th, Nicholas Breakspear, who was the only Englishman, to date, to become Pope. This is the 2nd single off the upcoming Album Stereotypical executively produced by Philosopher Beatz. "Educated" is a reminder to the kids in school to have multiple sources they use to obtain information. Don't just accept what you are told the only way to know what is true to you is to look into it and determine for yourself. The message is not anti-school and Harlem is not telling anyone not to go to school. It's just like he said "I went to school but that aint why I'm Educated". Check out the video! the single will be in stores digitally soon!

Many African American will be celebrating the religious holiday of Easter this weekend. It is interesting that many of us only think about the buying of new clothes associated with this spring festival. The buying of new clothes for Easter is tantamount to Santa Claus bringing toys to kids for Christmas. It holds no religious significance. It always befuddles me to see that, the poorest people are so focused into the economically exploitative rituals and ignorant of actual traditions. In my life experiences I have never heard Caucasians discuss getting new clothes for Easter. Maybe this is a "Black Thang" ? We are a very creative and stylish people so I would not be surprised to learn that this century long fad is exclusive to African-Americans. There are a lot of Black people who will g...

This is the third and final video on Purgatory by Edward J Hahnenberg. I speak about the period from the ecumenical council Lateran V and Pope Leo X, through the questioning of the selling of indulgences by Martin Luther in his famous 95 Theses, Luther's trip to Rome in 1510, his warning by Leo, Luther's excommunication, and the subsequent Council of Trent. I follow the chaotic period faced by popes Adrian VI and Clement VII, the rejection by Luther of Purgatory, the further complication of the rise of Anglicanism begun by Henry VIII, and end with the current teaching of the Catholic Church on Purgatory. I also examine the role of private revelation in appearances by Mary at Fatima and Lourdes.
