Hampshire (/ˈhæmpʃər/, i/ˈhæmpʃɪər/; abbreviated Hants, archaically known as the County of Southampton) is a county on the southern coast of England in the United Kingdom. The county town of Hampshire is Winchester, the former capital city of England. Hampshire is the most populous ceremonial county in the United Kingdom (excluding the metropolitan counties) with almost half of the county's population living within the South Hampshire conurbation which includes the cities of Southampton and Portsmouth. The larger South Hampshire metropolitan area has a population of 1,547,000. Hampshire is notable for housing the birthplaces of the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force. It is bordered by Dorset to the west, Wiltshire to the north-west, Berkshire to the north, Surrey to the north-east, and West Sussex to the east. The southern boundary is the coastline of the English Channel and the Solent, facing the Isle of Wight.
Hampshire is the largest county in South East England and remains the third largest shire county in the United Kingdom despite losing more land than any other English county in all contemporary boundary changes. At its greatest size in 1890, Hampshire was the fifth largest county in England. It now has an overall area of 3,700 square kilometres (1,400 sq mi), and measures about 86 kilometres (53 mi) east–west and 76 kilometres (47 mi) north–south.
The County Championship (currently known as the LV= County Championship because of its sponsor, Liverpool Victoria) is the domestic first-class cricket competition in England and Wales. The competition consists of eighteen clubs named after, and originally representing, historic counties, seventeen from England and one from Wales.
Until 1890, the concept of an unofficial championship existed whereby various claims would be made by or on behalf of a particular club as the "Champion County", an archaic term which now has the specific meaning of an unofficial claimant for the County Championship title prior to 1890. In contrast, the term "County Champions" applies in common parlance to a team that has won the official title since 1890.
The most usual means of claiming the unofficial title was by popular or press acclaim. In the majority of cases, the claim or proclamation was retrospective, often by cricket writers using reverse analysis via a study of known results. The unofficial title was not proclaimed in every season up to 1889 because in many cases there were not enough matches or there was simply no clear candidate. Having already been badly hit by the Seven Years' War, county cricket ceased altogether during the Napoleonic Wars and there was a period from 1797 to 1824 during which no inter-county matches took place. The concept of the unofficial title has been utilised ad hoc and relied on sufficient interest being shown.

Hampshire edged past Yorkshire in an opening week Specsavers County Championship thriller as they chased down 320 to win at Headingley inside three days. A number of useful contributions, led by Jimmy Adams’ dogged 72, gave James Vince and co a 19-point haul as they bounced back from early strife in this match having conceded a first-innings lead of 132 thanks to a century from Gary Ballance. It was a brilliant seven for 41 from 14 overs either side of tea from Kyle Abbott that set up the game for a thrilling final day. This is the official channel of the ECB. http://www.RudyMayer.com - Manchester is the state's commercial and industrial leader, as well as its largest city and the home of nearly 10 percent of its population. The city first gained national fame in the 1800s as the home of the massive textile mill of the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company. Nearly 5 million yards of cloth were shipped weekly from the mill, which employed thousands of workers and covered more than 8 million square feet. The mill thrived until the 1920s, when competition from southern mills and obsolete technology took their toll. In 1935, Amoskeag went bankrupt. Despite losing its major employer, Manchester rebuilt itself as a commercial and industrial center by diversifying industries. Today it is home to a melting pot of high tech companies, banks, business service...

This is volume seven of my personal tour journal. This video is a bit different than the rest. My tour originally had been scheduled to go through the south into Arkansas, but in Ohio, Chris invited me to travel with him to the East Coast where he and Rob Reid were planning on doing about a week of shows together. So we drove. A non-stop 24 hour drive (literally) from Murfreesboro, Tennessee to Boston. After the incredibly long drive, Chris and I crashed with Rob at his sisters' place in Jamaica Plain. After a solid night of sleep and some food (thanks for the pancakes Martin!), we moved on to Brunswick, Maine and camped out near Monmouth. One night we stopped at an awesome bar in Hallowell called, The Liberal Cup, where I had THE BEST oatmeal stout I've ever tasted. When we le...
