Secus again using their trucks to run down people -2 Activists Arrested

The 4 different security firms working for RWE around the mine have been attempting to keep people from looking into the mine and from taking photographs. In case of the media this constitutes a polite caution to return to the edge of the forest and not enter the deforested area or attempt to take photos of the mine. In case of the Hambacher Forest Activists entering the same area results in a mad chase with securities attemping to „bag“ an activist. Cars and trucks are used to try to chase people down and pin in them in just like in the case of a forest defender getting hit by the suckurity vehicle, being injured and then arrested for assault during the previous cutting season.

This Sunday in the early afternoon several activists ventured to the vicinity of the mine. They were at approached at first by two secu trucks which were then joined by two more. As if this was an open season on environmental activists: the vehicles begun to rev up their engines loudly, drive madly around the activists and attempt to box them in with their 2-3 tons of steel. When this did not work, some of the secus got out of the trucks and begun to chase the activists on foot through the ankle deep mud, with both sides slipping, sliding, getting stuck and falling as the 4 trucks continued to drive at the activist and attempt to cut them off. During this madness two activists were maced and captured and are being detained, either for trespassing or for any additional stuff that the pigs decide to add on to keep them longer. One of the activists earlier in this cutting season was woken while sleeping in the forest by the RWE’s publicly funded, storm troopers by being beaten and kicked and then was arrested. We can only imagine that experiencing this continual level of physical state instigated violence must make this already shitty experience even more so. Our Solidarity and Support Go Out To Them!!!

You are not alone! We are with You!! FUCK RWE!!

Nesting „Season“

Forest Activists‘ shoes do not die but continue the forest defense struggle by becoming a bird habitat.

This Rewilding* Project has been put up to bring attention that the nesting „season“ begins with habitat creation which is a process that in Hambacher Forest has taken over 12,000 years. It is especially older and standing dead trees that are crucial for its biodiversity in offering refuge to all life forms from microbes and insects to birds and mammals. As those and the younger trees are cut and forest is cleared it does not matter if it takes place during the off season for egg incubation as most birds are specialist which require a particular niche and territory to survive and are not able to move from the forest to the fields or to the fragmented patches of forest. Killing and destroying a forest and its inhabitants is just that, no matter what time frame it takes place in or what justification is used.

*Rewilding is a direct-action, radical restoration of habitats by planting trees to replace asphalt and concrete and bringing back biodiversity and habitats to disturbed eco-zones. If you want to help please bring any hiking boots you might have laying around to the meadow.

Former-Hambi-Prisoner-Meeting

To have some exchange between each other we want to gather in the afternoon of 19. march as former prisoners on meadow.
If we stay in one big group or if we split up into samller one we can decide there.
The idea was to find a nice comfortable place in the forest – if the weather is shit we can also find other places.

The meeting is not public – its just anounced here because we are not connected up to now.

NRW – The Grubber Gang!

Not only the Hambach Forest is in danger, it seems to be one of the favorite hobbies in NRW, to cut old forests. Thus also the Buschbell forest near Frechen soon will have to give way to a (quartz sand) mine. To prevent this there is a petition to stop the destruction as a first step from BUND Rhein-Erft.

We too are calling for this petition to be signed and for the preservation of the forest in any other way possible!

Amsterdam: Coal Port Blockade and Camp

JUNE 23rd. to 26th.

Code Rood (Code Red), a disobedient action coalition against the fossil fuel industry, will block the Harbor of Amsterdam, the world’s largest gasoline port and second largest coal harbour. The Port imports and stockpiles coal from Columbia, Russia and South Africa, to be burned to power the European electrical grid.

A camp with its infrastructure of legal support, media, food and wellness (dealing with repression) will be set up in the vicinity of the port at a later to be announced location. Focus is being put on digital security with privacy pre-action workshops organized for climate activists which stress the importance of using Linux, preferably Tails and encryption (GPG) and utilizing e-mail accounts only to be used for the action itself.

It’s CODE RED for the Climate and the Planet!
See You in the Port of Amsterdam on June 24th.!

(http://klimaatactie.nl/ registration form for the preparing conference in Amsterdam – March 4 2017)

Skillshares Call for Additional Workshops

The Skillshares Camp will take place for over a week beginning on April 9 with workshops dealing with direct action, forest skills, repression, herbs and various DIY skills. More workshops are welcomed so if you are interested in sharing some of your skills or knowledge please e-mail hambacherforst[AT]riseup.net to schedule it or just show up and organize it spontaneously.

See You in the Forest!!

PS: If someone is good at repairing bicycles, many people would be very happy about a workshop.

Cologne Coal Train Blockade, April 1st

The Day of action will begin at 11 am on the Marcel-Proust promenade with a climate festival and from 3 pm on the traintracks in the Municipal Forest of Cologne.

2017will be a busy year of actions against lignite mining. In August, thousands of people will enter the Rhine Coal Region and orchestrate massive actions of civil disobedience. In November, another action will take place during the climate summit in Bonn (COP23) with a Climate Camp being set up for the duration. In the meantime Ende Galende Action will be organized in Cologne. We will block the train, which brings the processed coal from the Rhine area from Frechen to Merkenich.

We are calling for an immediate switch to renewable energies from Rhine Energy and City of Cologne!

Rheine Energy is far behind time with a share of 4.9% renewable energies. With most of its energy still coming from coal. For this to continue, villages are relocated and forests are destroyed. What remains: „The Hole“, is bigger than cities of Aachen and Düren combined. Rheinenergie is 80% of the city of Cologne and 20% of RWE. We are calling on the city of Cologne to use its influence and to switch to renewable energies, as well as the conversion of the Merkenich heating plant to natural gas. We say: Back to the future! Get out of the coal!

We want the whole thing: the end of fossil capitalism!

We are fighting not only against coal, against fracking, against oil, but also question the profit logic and growth. These promote false solutions such as market mechanisms, large-scale projects and the continued exploitation of the global South. While few energy conglomerates earn splendidly and are assisted with subsidies, they alone disconnect power from 350,000 households annually in Germany – and make their own employees believe that the coal will last forever. We need a plan on how we, as a society, organize and finance social and ecological transformation – beyond capitalist profit logic. We all bear the consequences of energy policy – that’s why we want to play a part: for a democratically organized energy supply!

On to an obnoxious 2017!

We lined up in the diverse actions of climate activists and solidarize with the occupation of Hambacher Forst. We will not cease to interfere with the brown coal mining by our actions until our demands are met.

8 Meter Ocean Rise the New Norm over the next century

Climate Change Capitalism and Corporations
RWE continuing Carbon emissions from their power plants and mines, the largest net CO2 source in Europe, and its out of season destruction of a natural carbon sink that the Hambacher Forest has been for millenia is all taking place despite a continuing temerature records being broken(9 all time temperature record-breaking years happening all in this century), unprecedented low arctic and now also antarctic ice-cover, despite catastrophic effect on the planet as reflected even by both IPCC Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) latest revised predictions that double the water-level rise during this century to be as high as 8 meters beyond present level. This will mean the obliteration of habitats world-over and destruction of coastal cities. Still these official studies are flawed in two most important aspects: for their CO2 emissions estimates they use the data which has in US and several other industrialist countries been provided by the industry itself which has been monitoring its own emissions, the actual emissions are in reality much higher. Second the future projections take into an account COP Summit’s non-binding agreements for future projected CO2 output which in most cases are not abided by and exceeded, which especially will be the case with climate deniers such as Trump in power. So the „worst case“ scenario is in reality the new normal with the potential worst case scenarios being even more catastrophic as predicted by former Nasa scientist James Hansen, the originator of global warming warnings in the 80’s who has been predicting several meter ocean level rise for the last 10 years. Leading him to lock himself to the White House fence and get arrested even during the previous „Oh-yes-we-do-need-to-do-something“ US administration.

Forest Cutting Continues Today

3rd March – another clearing in the forest!

Hambacher Forest cutting season takes place from 01. October to 28 February.
This time is maintained to take into account the nesting period. In spite of this, on the 1st of March new cutting has begun. This also included mulching and clearing of brush.

Today about 15 RWE contracted security from Mundt and Holzfäller were present guarding workers with chainsaws . When seen by activists they packed everything in and quickly withdrew behind their fence. This has been the first time that cutting has taken place this year without large police presence.

Neither RWE press office nor the Police made any statements about this action contradicting their own verbal promises to announce all actions ahead of time this year.

Leith Hill, England: Forest Occupied

The Fort

A coalition of environmental activists and local residents has occupied a forest in Surrey South of London to block Europa Oil from cutting a hectare of protected Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that is also part of the local Green Belt. They have built a massive fort-like structure on the planned location of the drilling site, surrounded by tree houses and platforms and are also maintaining a roadside camp. The support of many locals has been exceptional, with meals cooked by a different local family each evening being brought to the protest site. The camp occupation is run by a small group of mostly older activists, with the fort being a closed to the outsiders high security installation. More direct-action and eco-defense activists are welcomed to exchange their skills and keep the struggle against fossil fuels going at this beautiful and still natural location.

RWE Engages in Illegal Logging

The cutting season has ended as of beginning of this month. Yet today unauthorized and illegal cutting took place in the vicinity of Death Trap tree-house, close to the security bridge. This cutting has been taking place without any escort by the police and when confronted by activists photographing and filming this, the persons engaging in out of season cutting hid and tried to get away without being photographed.

…well the NRW parliament (North Rhine Westphalia) did after all just declare that its possible to deforest and mine without any long-term legal and financial consequences…

BROWN COAL FOLLOW-UP COSTS REJECTED

folge kosten bund

North Rhine-Westphalia Parliament turns down assessment of costs of post-coal exploitation clean-up and remediation.

In the latest round of decision-making a proposal was put forth by the Pirate Party for an independent assessment on the costs of the brown coal exploitation and associated clean up costs. The application was commissioned by BUND(German Friends of the Earth) and environmental experts who criticized the lack of transparency in coping with the long-term damage caused by brown coal and the lack of financial funds for clean up operations. This was in turn rejected by the majority of FDP, CDU, SPD backed by their Green allies.

This proposal to take a deeper look at the impact of coal on the local ecosystem and economy was turned down due to „Green“ Party’s compliance with the coal industry. Initially the Greens supported the proposal only to vote against it in the end as SPD and the Greens in NRW had agreed by forming a coalition agreement that stipulates that they will only be voting in unison. Why such an environment oriented proposal has the potential to split the coalition says quite a bit about the state of „red-green“ power-sharing alliance.

In the course of the roll-call vote, the members of the Pirate Party were filming the Green MPs as they cast their votes. Voting was then interrupted and the filming and photography was expressly forbidden.

This decision, or rather lack of any decision and action reflects the bleak reality of the so called Resource Course. Turning through the capitalist dynamic of exploitation and corruption the richest in natural resources regions such as Apalachia, Niger and Anthabasca River Deltas, Northern-South America and Western Papua New Guinea and many, many others including NRW into the most ecologically, socially and economically decimated regions on the planet where the the local population is left not just with a toxic legacy but also with increased aftermath of repression and human rights violations and disintegration of any illusions of governmental transparency. Only in such a context is it possible to ignore the global impact of Fossil Fools and Extreme Energy, as the ruling politicians who are also openly employed by RWE call out louder and louder for eviction, repression and silencing of all who raise the voice of alarm and refuse to remain passive.

Of course this lack of social responsibility and the resulting ecological and climate break-down is also a „great opportunity“ to all who, like RWE, have close connection to military industrial complex and benefit from use, expansion and also militarization of law-enforcement and who already take advantage of political and ecological disintegration by housing refugees in their ghost-towns. For them peak-everything reality of enforced scarcity, climate chaos and the state of permanent emergency represent unprecedented profiteering and power-grab opportunities. However the total disregard, arrogance and ignorance of principles of ecology, climate science and social justice by all of those who spin these visions of enriching themselves with no bounds and of returning to the past glories makes it too easy for them to ignore that the disaster that is put in place here will be and already is so global and complete in scope that this time there will be no economic miracle to bring us out of the ruins of hunger, collapse and decimation. Faced with this reality many movements and struggles around the world including the Hambacher Forest Occupation refused and continue to refuse to remain passive.

For more on this political passivity, co-option and corruption that can and does function as a good argument for radicalization check out the links at the end of German Blog version of this article.

Forest Info Replaced

Polizeieinsatz 21.02.2017
Last week during clearing of barricades about 20 riot cops and RWE workers destroyed and took out the forest the Info Board showing tracks of animals in the forest as well as direction signs pointing to different parts of the forest occupation. Damaging and removal of Hambacher Forest material and any information on species present in the forest is a on-going part of the repression cycle. This info and structures do not go well with present propaganda campaign against forest activists which has been conducted by openly employed by RWE politicians and their „journalist“ contractors done to justify the planned eviction of the meadow, forest occupation and destruction of the last parts of the Hambacher Forest using public resources to try to erase any educational or ecological content that is in conflict with their constant green-washing campaigns. Yet for as long as the forest activists occupy the forest there will be banners, forest info and signs to remind all of the issues at hand.

Polizeieinsatz 21.02.2017
Shortly after the this last „visit“ new signs and info were put up illustrating the species which are being defended in the Hambacher Forest. It included outlines of birds in flight and responses to the destruction of the forest, mass polution and destabilization of global climate. This time the info has been placed higher up in the trees.

Hambach Coal Train Sabotaged

Hambachbahn sabotaged!
25 February 2017

Also reposted on indymedia:

„On 21.02.17 we sabotaged the Hambachbahn. We have caused a short circuit at the overhead lines by throwing a wire rope, with a stone on both ends (attached with duck tape). For the time being, this stoped all coal trains in the vicinity.

This action was announced to be a response to the clearing work done a few days ago in Hambacher Forst.

Try it, it’s fun. You just need to find a bridge over the railroad-tracks. When the wire rope meets the overhead lines, a large lightning flash (look away or wear dark-glasses) and it makes a loud bang.

Free Turt * le, Free Tuna, Freedom for all Prisoners! “

[It has been pointed out on the German blog that it is not advisable to use duck/gaffer tape in actions as it is notorious for picking up DNA evidence]

Report-back from Bure Antinuclear Mobilization

From February 14 to 18, a large anti-nuclear mobilization took place in Bure (France) resisting the French State Company Andra’s plans to build an underground nuclear storage site in the occupied Lujec Forest. Over couple of days several night marches took place from the “Maison de Résistance” (House of Resistance) to the temporary nuclear storage site and progressively fences surrounding the storage site were brought down.

On Feb. 8th, the mobilization culminated with over 1000 supporters taking part in the march to the occupied forest with its many barricades/guard-houses, living structures through-out the forest and a growing number of tree-houses. The visitors shared a collective dinner with the occupiers and then marched to the Andra’s storage site where they had to cope with riot police shooting tear gas projectiles, concussion grenades and blocking the road with a mobile tank with attached fence-barricade that was bolted to the road as the crowd approached. The protesters responded by setting up their own barricades and lighting their creative floats on shopping cards, with one appropriately named Fénix, on fire and engaging the police in a four hour battle. During that time the remaining fences were taken down, used as additional barricades and as shields from the police projectiles. Only two people were arrested and later released and several sustained injuries from the „FlashBang“concussion grenades. Regardless of the repression and the state imposed violence the atmosphere remained festive and full of solidarity.

An ongoing call has been issued out for support of the forest occupation due to the ongoing risk of police actions to dislodge the forest defenders. This anti-nuclear struggle is located in Bure, department of Lorraine, approx. 3 hour drive south from the borders with Belgium and Germany.
