Brisbane weather: Rain, rain, and more rain forecast for the week

  • 18 reading now

Brisbane has copped a drenching and the wet weather is likely to continue, with "hit and miss" showers and thunderstorms set to dump more rain around the region in coming days.

Brisbane had received 54mm of rain by 4pm on Monday, far from the most rain south-east Queensland received, with 95mm of rain recorded at Upper Springbrook by the Bureau of Meteorology.

And bureau meteorologist Janine Yuasa said SEQ could expect more rain, which would ease towards the end of the week.

"In the coming couple of days in particular, tomorrow and maybe Thursday as well, we're looking at falls of up to 10mm fairly likely across Brisbane and the greater south-east Queensland area," Ms Yuasa said.

"We could see localised heavier falls of up to 20mm or to 30mm or so maybe closer to the coast, up towards the Sunshine Coast in particular."

Despite the damp Autumn weather, it is also forecast to remain warm. Brisbane is forecast for a top of 30 degrees on Tuesday, 31 on Wednesday, and 30 degrees for the rest of the week, with the overnight lows dropping to 22 degrees.

And while a decent amount of rain was expected, Ms Yuasa said there would not be a blanket drenching of the greater Brisbane region.

"It's going to be your hit and miss-type shower and thunderstorm activity, so the heavier falls may be quite localised," she said.

"One place might see quite a bit, the next suburb over might not see much at all."

While Brisbane's rainfall this week was a drop in the ocean compared with the March daily record – a whopping 284mm recorded on March 14, 1908 – Brisbane is well on the way to beating the March monthly average of 142.9mm, with about 130mm so far already.
