Calling Card

Calling Card is the sixth studio release by Irish singer/guitarist Rory Gallagher. A 1976 release, it was his second of four albums released on Chrysalis Records in the 1970s. Deep Purple/Rainbow bass guitarist Roger Glover co-produced with Gallagher: it was the first time that Gallagher worked with a "name" producer and the only successful such collaboration. It was also the last album Gallagher would do with Rod de'Ath (drums) and Lou Martin (keyboards). After Calling Card Gallagher retained only his long-time bass guitarist Gerry McAvoy and hired Ted McKenna on drums. This revised power trio was Gallagher's line up for the next five years, when Brendan O'Neil took the sticks.

Recording

The sessions for the album began at Musicland Studios in Munich, Germany, in the summer of 1976. Glover came on board as co-producer after having met Gallagher when the latter opened for Deep Purple on an American tour. The choice of Glover signified a conscious attempt by Gallagher to try new directions from the hard rock he was best known for. Calling Card is one of his most diverse albums. It also reflects the synergy that the band had developed after years of playing together. As producer Roger Glover commented “they all seemed very dedicated to Rory, there was an allegiance, born of years of smoky clubs and endless journeys”. This was the fifth and last release featuring this line-up.

The Galleria

The Galleria, stylized theGalleria or the Houston Galleria, is an upscale mixed-use urban development centrally located in the Uptown District of Houston, Texas, United States. The development consists of a retail complex, as well as the Galleria Office Towers complex, two Westin hotels, and a private health club. The office towers and hotels are separately owned and managed from the shopping center.

With 3 million total square feet of space that includes 2.4 million of gross leasable area with over 375 stores, the Galleria is the largest mall in Texas and ninth-largest in the United States. It is currently anchored by Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy's.

History

The idea of an indoor shopping center with a hotel was envisioned in the 1940s by oilman Glenn H. McCarthy where a second phase was to include the Shamrock Hotel; this concept was scrapped right after the Hilton Hotel franchise took over the Shamrock in 1955. Glenn H. McCarthy's abandoned concept would influence Gerald Hines in the late 1960s.

Morgan Geist, better known by his stage name Storm Queen is an American music producer, songwriter, remixer and DJ from Wayne, New Jersey. He is best known for his song "Look Right Through", which was remixed by Marc Kinchen and had Geist's lyrics sung by Damon C. Scott. Geist is also a member of Brooklyn-based house and nu-disco duo Metro Area. Morgan also remixed many artists including The Rapture, Franz Ferdinand, Telex and many others.

Music career

2010-present: Breakthrough

In 2010 Storm Queen released his debut single "Look Right Through" on Geist's own Environ label. In 2011, the follow-up "It Goes On" was released. In July 2012 he released "Let's Make Mistakes" as his third single. On November 3, 2013, a licensed version of the single "Look Right Through" was released via Defected Records/Ministry of Sound. In the United Kingdom, the song entered at the top of the UK Singles Chart on November 10, 2013, becoming Storm Queen's first number one song in The UK, dethroning Eminem and Rihanna's "The Monster" from the top of the chart. In Ireland, the song entered at number thirty on the Irish Singles Chart on November 8, 2013, and peaked at number twenty.

Jessy Lanza

Jessy Lanza is a Canadian electronic songwriter, producer, and vocalist from Hamilton, Ontario. Lanza was listed as one of the best new artists of 2013 by XLR8R. Her debut album, Pull My Hair Back, was mentioned by The Guardian as "the latest and possibly greatest of the new ethereal soul girls" and ranked #4 on Resident Advisor's Top 20 Albums of 2013.Pull My Hair Back was co-written and co-produced with Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys and released on the UK's Hyperdub record label. Laced with funk, soul, R&B, and haunting high-register vocals, Lanza cites Missy Elliot and Timbaland as early influences on her songwriting. Lanza grew up playing piano and studying jazz.

The album Pull My Hair Back was a shortlisted nominee for the 2014 Polaris Music Prize.
