OHCHR-Guatemala was established in January 2005 by an agreement between the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Government of Guatemala. The agreement was extended in 2008, in 2011 and most recently in 2014, for three years. The functions of OHCHR-Guatemala are to monitor the human rights situation in the country, to provide technical assistance to the Government, and to advise State institutions and civil society in order to enhance the promotion and protection of human rights.
