North Shore Liberal candidate picked for by-election

The NSW Liberal Party finally have their candidates for the by-election — just three weeks away — with the former president of the NSW Liberal Women's Council, Felicity Wilson, winning party preselection for the seat of North Shore.

The Liberal Party held a ballot last night to decide who will run in the NSW seat.

Former Health Minister Jillian Skinner announced her retirement from politics in late January.

The frontrunners for the pre-selection were Ms Skinner's preferred candidate, academic Jessica Kean, former premier Barry O'Farrell's chief of staff Anna McPhee, and former staffer to Planning Minister Anthony Roberts, Tim James.

The preselection needs to be rubberstamped by the state executive and it will be another 24 hours before Ms Wilson can front the media and join Premier Gladys Berejiklian on the campaign trail.

There are three electorates facing by-elections in a few weeks.

James Griffin, touted as former premier Mike Baird's pick to take over his seat of Manly, won the Liberal pre-selection ballot on Monday night.

Jilly Pilon stepped in for the Liberals to vie for the seat of Gosford after Labor MP, Kathy Smith, stepped down to concentrate on her battle with cancer.

The by-election for the North Shore, Manly and Gosford electorates will be held on April 8.
