The Rabbitohs won a spiteful clash with Newcastle, the Roosters beat Penrith at the death, and the Cowboys were shocked by Manly in Townsville.

Look back at all the stats that mattered in Saturday's NRL clashes with our score centre.

Knights v Rabbitohs

An errant elbow from South Sydney forward George Burgess has soured a dramatic 24-18 NRL win over Newcastle.

Souths became just the second team to win after trailing at half-time this season, overcoming a two-point deficit at the break.

In further concerns for the Rabbitohs, half-back Adam Reynolds appeared to carry a right shoulder injury for most the match, just a week after returning from appendix surgery.

However it did not stop him setting-up the match-clinching try with a perfectly-timed lofted pass for winger Braidon Burns.

It gave Souths a 22-12 lead with just over 20 minutes remaining, and from there they added to their lead with a penalty goal before Knights winger Ken Sio scored a late consolation try.

Panthers v Roosters

The Roosters beat Penrith 14-12 thanks to a stunning match-winning try to full-back Michael Gordon.

The Panthers led 8-0 after half an hour, before Gordon scooted over off a Mitchell Pearce pass. He converted his own try, but it was the only shot he landed all night.

Winger Latrell Mitchell cross on the stroke of half-time and the visitors managed to take a 10-8 lead to the break.

Panthers half-back Nathan Cleary squared the ledger with a penalty goal shortly after the resumption and gave the hosts a lead in the 58th minute with another two-pointer.

But Gordon dived over in the 73rd minute on the end of a 55-metre team move that featured five passes, a grubber and a soccer to sink the Panthers.

Stats

Cowboys v Manly

North Queensland was ambushed on its home turf by Manly, with the visitors leaving Townsville the 30-8 victors on Saturday.

The night started routinely enough, with the Sea Eagles' fifth-minute penalty cancelled out by Johnathan Thurston's shot, before Jake Granville scooted over for the game's first try.

But Jorge Taufua and Tom Trbojevic made sure Manly went into the half-time break with its nose in front with tries in the final five minutes of the half.

The break did not halt the Sea Eagles' momentum either, as Brenton Lawrence and Jackson Hastings completed the rout.
