Tropical Cyclone Alfred remains slow moving along the Gulf of Carpentaria coast

The tropical low in the Gulf of Carpentaria intensified to Category 1 strength this morning. Cyclone Alfred is forecast to move slowly south-southeast, and weaken into a tropical low again tomorrow (Tuesday).
Gales with gusts to 110km/h are occurring at Centre Island, and expected to affect coastal and island communities between Port McArthur and Mornington Island later today as the cyclone edges closer to the coast.

South Doodlakine Doppler radar images now online

Images from the South Doodlakine Doppler radar are now available on the Bureau of Meteorology’s website.
The South Doodlakine radar is the second of three Doppler radars that are part of a $23 million project managed by the Western Australian Government Department of Agriculture and Food, made possible by Royalties for Regions investment.

Extreme heatwave conditions could break records

New South Wales could experience its hottest February day on record tomorrow, as extreme heatwave conditions peak across the state.
Bureau of Meteorology forecasts indicate temperatures will reach the mid-40s in many inland areas and high 30s along the coast for the next two days.
