Lexus' bold decision to send an elegant concept car into production continues to win support from the design community, with the LC 500 named production car of the year at the 2016 Geneva motor show.
A group of 20 judges including prominent car designers recognised the coupe's style as part of annual awards produced by Car Design News.
Guy Bird, editor of Car Design News, says "it was great to see the fantastic LF-LC concept faithfully translated into the beautiful LC production car with so little compromise. This is a rare thing in the automotive industry and should be celebrated".
Lexus' LF-LC concept starred in Australia's last international motor show, held in Sydney in 2012.
The V8 and V6 hybrid-powered coupe finished ahead of Volvo's handsomely proportioned V90 wagon and Bugatti's brutal Chiron as the top three production cars of the year. Renault's Trezor supercar concept was named concept car of the year.
This isn't the first prize for the LC 500, which received two awards as the best production car, and the model with the best interior at the Detroit motor show in January.
The LC 500 arrives locally in June.

Are you kidding, it only looks good side on, the front 3/4 angle is appalling, the most ungainly design I've ever seen. This car is a joke, a cramped 2 seater coupe on the inside, huge on the outside, obscene weight over 1900kg, are they kidding, and in no way would you'd even contemplate this over the competition

What do Lexus drivers care if it's ugly? They're just Camry drivers that have come into some money and are looking for a status symbol. They still have no taste and still can't drive.

iboast, what do you drive? Blind bigotry toward a brand as good quality as Lexus is monumentally stupid. What's more, the Camry driver joke is now so old that I first heard it more years ago than the number of years Lexus has come #1 in the JD Power Dependability Index... (hint: more than 20).

The judges must still be laughing. Were there some guest judges from the planet Uranus?

Crystal, don't forget Porsche is consistently #2 in J D Powers, and they can make a looker that goes.
