New workers’ parties and left formationsAfter the collapse of the stalinist regimes in 1989 / 91, the leaders of
former workers’ parties, like the Labour Party in Britain, the PT in
Brasil and the SPD in Germany moved dramatically to the right. This
process has gone so far that the character of these parties has changed:
from workers’ parties with capitalist leaderships, they became formations
which are no longer instruments used by the working class to defend and
fight for their class interests. As a result, a political vacuum now
exists that can and must be filled by the building of new mass parties of
the working class. The CWI is active in this process in many countries,
fighting to rebuild the workers’ movement and to struggle for a Marxist
leadership, to make sure that these new formations develop into tools to
defend the working class and achieve the socialist transformation of
society. |
