Canberra javelin thrower Kelsey-Lee Roberts has made a stunning return to athletics after missing the final at last year's Rio Olympic Games.
The disappointment of her maiden Olympic campaign has been washed away by a comfortable win at the Sydney Classic.
Roberts threw 59.18m - almost 13 metres clear of her closest rival - just one week after opening her season with a win at the ACT athletics track and field championships.
The 25-year-old was just hoping to "blow out the cobwebs" when she threw 59.20m at the AIS last weekend, which was nearly 14 metres further than second-placed Karen Clark.
Clarke was again the bridesmaid to the Roberts at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre, with the latter gearing up for a Commonwealth Games gold medal charge next year.
Roberts firmed as a gold medal hopeful for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games after fellow Australian Kim Mickle tore her anterior cruciate ligament playing in the AFL Women's competition.
Mickle was recovering from a dislocated shoulder sustained at the Olympics and now faces a her sixth bout of reconstructive surgery after busting her knee playing for Fremantle.
Roberts finished third at the 2014 Commonwealth Games behind Mickle and South African Sunnette Viljoen.
