The people of Perth have spoken and spoken loudly, with both the adults' and children's People's Choice Awards for Sculpture by the Sea works going to Lucy Humphrey's Horizon.

The New South Wales architect and sculptor's dome, by turns reflective and transparent, has brought thousands of passersby to a standstill at the 13th annual free exhibition in Cottesloe.

On Saturday afternoon it received both the $5000 and $2000 prizes.

Michael Anghie from award sponsor EY, presenting the first, described the work as having captured the hearts and minds of West Australians.

He said art had a critical role in "contributing to a vibrant economy, a diverse culture and community and in educating and inspiring our people."

The exhibition of 77 sculptures, Perth's largest free outdoor event, is still open until Monday and features artists from across the world as well as numerous West Australians, eight of whom are first-time exhibitors

Founding director David Handley said it had been a delight to see thousands of schoolchildren visit during the day and tens of thousands of people visiting on their evenings and weekends.

"Thank you to the artists and everyone for making the exhibition so special," he said.
