Saddam was given and sold hundreds of tons of WMDs (Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Weapons) during the 1980s by the U.S. and other Countries, some which was used against Iran during their War (1980 to 1988). The rest was stored at multiple depots (including Khamisiyah) in Iraq, until the 1990-91 Gulf War, when he mobilized those weapons and sent them to various hiding places, hoping the Coalition Forces would not be able to find and destroy them easily. Saddam put Hussein Kamal (one of his son in laws) in charge of these WMDs, but made sure Kamal knew that Saddam was not fully trusting him, demanding daily updates and surprise spot checks. Kamal knew that Saddam would eventually see him as a threat to his Power, and have him killed after the Gulf War ended. Kamal secretly made deals with the Shiite Commanders of Saddams Army, telling them that if they helped Kamal, he would rise to Power and allow those Shiites (pronounced She-ite)to remain in their positions. At the time, since Saddam and Kamal were in the ruling Party of the Sunni (Soon-ie), the Shiites were considered a Lower Caste and a Minority with no real Power in the Government or Military, and this would mean a real change they had not seen before. The Shiite Commanders agreed, but did not trust Kamal, so they began secretly talking to Shiites in Iran, letting them know that Saddams most powerful weapons were now mostly under Shiite control. They arranged to make truck convoys from Iraq to Iran, moving those WMDs over the border, where the trucks would be sent to the Pasdaran Barracks near Tehran Iran, to the hands of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. They did this for several months without Saddam or Kamal knowing about it. U.S. Intelligence did find out, and alerted their Commanders that the WMD storage depots they were bombing would NOT contain as many weapons as they had thought. They also noted that these weapons were the best Saddam had collected over the past 15 years, and that they included bulk Nuclear materials such as Green Cake (Uranium TetraFluoride) and Yellow Cake (Uranium Hexafluoride), and Plutonium (which later UN Inspections found trace amounts of proving Iraq was able to make it even tho the U.S. thought they could not). Also on these trucks headed for Iran were the bulk bio agents Anthrax, Botulinum, Plague, Tularemia, bulk Dusty and binary Chemical agents Sarin (GB), CycloSarin (GF), Soman (GD), Tabun (GA), VX, and H series Mustard agents (some also in Binary and Dusty form), as well as the technical plans for making more of all the above and computers with which to do so. These night time truck convoys represented a serious breach of both Intelligence and the spread of banned weapons, and HAD to be stopped. The decision was made to attack the most used method of border crossing, in the area of Basrah Iraq and the border with Iran. The weapon to be used was a 5 Kiloton "Dialable Yield" Nuclear Penetrator bomb. It was dropped on the 27th of February 1991, and was witnessed by several Coalition Soldiers (both Air and Ground Troops), as well as many who lived nearby. The region chosen was considered "Deserted" for the most part, and so was perfect for many reasons. Few witnesses, most of the damage would be under ground leaving little evidence, and since it was during a War, it could be easily explained away as just another bomb if any Press asked questions. The message the bomb sent was dramatic, clear, and heard by Saddam and Iran. The very next day, Saddams forces surrendered to the Coalition, and the night convoys carrying WMDs to Iran stopped. As shown in this video, the proof is also clear, there was a seismic event at the area in question, of the magnitude, duration, depth, and timing to represent a 5 Kiloton explosion, and was NOT denied by the Dept of Defense when asked about it. They simply said there were "a lot of bombs" dropped in Iraq, and that they did not "Know" if an Atomic one HAD been used. Consider this - If the D.O.D. had dropped a Nuclear Bomb in Iraq, it would be hard to believe that they would not KNOW they had done so, and for them NOT to loudly and outright deny it immediately says volumes. The evidence clearly shows they did, and when presented that evidence and given the chance to deny it, they faltered, danced around the facts and refused to give a clear denial in writing, for the Record.
