sam.voxThere's probably no quicker way to "break the ice" with a Tanzanian on the streets than to demonstrate some football (soccer) skills.
⠀
Here is a guy showing me his Dana-Dana skills with a ball made of plastic bags. Dana-Dana is a ball juggling skill - to keep the ball in the air for as long as possible by bouncing it off your foot. In England they call it 'Keepy-Uppy'. I'm curious to know what it's called in other countries.- shavanamushwanaWe call it thathatha in my part of South Africa, liere
- shavanamushwana@sam.vox thathata in my part of South Africa, which is a literal translation of the sound by the juggling act
- sam.vox@oriagg thank you 🙌 glad you like it 😊
- sam.vox@alekurtz ahh awesome! I love how passionate Italians are about their football 🙌
- sam.vox@shavanamushwana that's really interesting! I was in South Africa and didn't know that. Thank you!
- wanderwondersI'm in love with the ball made of plastic bags!
- irungu_In Kenya it's just called pepeta (pronounced "pepeetaa")
- sam.vox@wanderwonders it's very well woven together with plastic bags and some rope. I wish I could make one myself, they are very beautiful 😊
- sam.vox@irungu_ Ahhh very interesting, we use that word for something else.
- mr_rioDominadas in mexico :)
- andreanbastosNo, @sam.vox. I would need a lot of phonetic symbols to give you the correct pronounciation in Portuguese though. 😉
- sam.vox@mr_rio ah that's great! I hope to visit Mexico one day 🙌
- sam.vox@andreanbastos hahaha I get what you mean 😄 would love to visit Brazil someday 🙌
