Land and water management is a critical issue for many Indigenous communities. As land continues to be returned through native title and other processes, there is a growing desire to turn ownership into positive outcomes for traditional owners.

Recognising this, AIATSIS is working with our partners to put together a �report card’ for the Indigenous Land and Sea Management sector, to see whether, over time, it is living up to the needs and aspirations of Indigenous people living on country.

An important feature of the project is analysing Indigenous employment in the natural resource management sector, using job advertisements provided to us by www.NRMJobs.com.au.
We want to answer questions like:

• How many jobs were there for Indigenous people?
• Where in Australia were they available?
• Who was hiring?

We are also investigating how things like qualifications and experience, pay and conditions, and sources of funding differ across the industry for Indigenous people and projects.

This project is a response to requests by participants in a workshop on emerging issues in land and sea management that took place during the 2014 National Native Title Conference.
