There are a few things you need to do before you start studying. Check out these handy tips and links.
Confirm your enrolment
- Ensure you have attended your first enrolment session and confirmed your fee arrangements.
- Check that your enrolment details are correct using MYVU portal
- Organise your timetable and enrol in tutorials, labs or other classes relevant to your course by accessing the MyTimetable system
- Be aware of the census date and its importance. Check our important study dates on Ask VU, the student diary or the academic calendar for details.
Set up VU online systems & resources
- Activate your VU student email. All important information is sent to your VU email so check it regularly or set up a forward to your personal email address.
- Start using the MYVU Portal to check your enrolment details, timetable, unit guidelines and results
- Arrange your student ID card online (you'll be prompted to log in via the MyVU Portal). You can collect it from any Student Service Centre. Your ID will let you access the library, services like counselling and student advisory services and receive student deals from companies.

Prepare to study
- Make a study plan
- Attend a VU Ready session to make things easier for getting started at uni
- Investigate the library
- Test you have access to VU Collaborate (login using the MYVU Portal). You will need to use VU Collaborate to access course materials
- Check out the learning and support services available to you, including:
Get involved in social activities
- Have fun at O-Fest (Orientation)
- Join a club or society
- Become a VU vollie (volunteer)
- Develop your leadership skills
- Check out our sport and fitness facilities and teams
- Find out about the Victoria University Student Union (VUSU).
Settle in to Melbourne
If you have just arrived in Melbourne you may feel tired, anxious or stressed. You're not alone – this is a normal reaction for new students. Take the time to adjust to your new environment and don't forget to learn about:
- housing and accommodation
- accessing money
- using public transport
- visiting your VU campus
- finding restaurants and takeaway food outlets.
