Premier-elect Mark McGowan has announced his new Labor ministry, with former party heavyweights Margaret Quirk and Chris Tallentire missing out on ministerial roles despite holding shadow portfolios while in opposition.
Shadow deputy leader Roger Cook has been confirmed as deputy premier, while former federal MP Alannah MacTiernan, who has returned to state politics with an upper house seat, has parachuted into the ministry, although it's not clear which portfolio she will take.
Mr McGowan will announce his portfolio allocations on Thursday before he and his new ministry are officially sworn in as the new state government on Friday.
Ten of the soon-to-be elected members have significant trade union backgrounds.
"From this point forward the hard work begins to make Western Australia a stronger, fairer state, which I know we'll do," Mr McGowan said as he addressed the Labor party caucus.
Before the meeting began he told reporters he hoped those who missed out on a portfolio would be understanding.
"There's always people who are disappointed in politics but the great thing is we're forming a government and they'll get the opportunity to participate in implementing our policies and doing good things for the state," Mr McGowan said.
Mr Tallentire was shadow minister for environment and climate change while Ms Quirk, a former minister during Labor's Gallop and Carpenter governments, was shadow minister for emergency services, citizenship and multicultural interests and seniors.
