Length and style guidelines
Length of articles varies widely, but 6,000–9,000 words is the usual range. Both British and US spelling and punctuation conventions are acceptable.
As an interdisciplinary journal, we recognize the appropriateness of varying reference formats depending on the type of the article. Footnotes will be set at the bottom of each page.
If you place references in parentheses in the text, we request that you observe the following format for indicating author, year, and page number: ( Clark 2002: 187)
In the list of references, the year of publication should directly follow the author’s name (surname first). Use full-stops (periods), not parentheses, to separate components of the reference.
If, on the other hand, you place your complete references in footnotes, then the surname should not go first, and the year of publication should come after the name of the publisher. Ensuing references to the same source should use an abbreviated title; “Op. cit.” is not useful. If the first reference might be hard to find, then indicate in parentheses the number of the note in which it appears.
