East Africa or Eastern Africa is the easterly region of the African continent, variably defined by geography or geopolitics. In the United Nations Statistics Division scheme of geographic regions, 20 territories constitute Eastern Africa:
East is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. East is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. It is the opposite of west and is perpendicular to north and south.
The word east comes from Middle English est, from Old English ēast, which itself comes from the Proto-Germanic *aus-to- or *austra- "east, toward the sunrise", from Proto-Indo-European *aus- "to shine," or "dawn". This is similar to Old High German *ōstar "to the east", Latin aurora "dawn", and Greek ēōs or heōs.Ēostre, a Germanic goddess of dawn, might have been a personification of both dawn and the cardinal points.
By convention, the right hand side of a map is east. This convention has developed from the use of a compass, which places north at the top.
To go east using a compass for navigation, set a bearing or azimuth of 90°.
East is the direction toward which the Earth rotates about its axis, and therefore the general direction from which the Sun appears to rise. The practice of praying towards the East is older than Christianity, but has been adopted by this religion as the Orient was thought of as containing mankind's original home. Hence, most Christian churches are oriented towards the east.
East African may refer to:
The Swahili Coast refers to a coastal area in Southeast Africa inhabited by the Swahili people. It mainly consists of littoral Kenya, Tanzania and northern Mozambique. The term may also include some of the Indian Ocean islands, such as Zanzibar, Pate and Comoros, which lie off the Swahili Coast. The Swahili Coast has a distinct culture, demography, religion and geography, and as a result - along with other factors, including economic - has witnessed rising secessionism.
The major ports along the Swahili Coast include:
Off-shore island groups associated with this coastal region:
Parts of the area that are today considered Swahili Coast was known as Azania or Zingion in the Greco-Roman era, and as Zanj or Zinj in Middle Eastern and Chinese literature from the 7th to the 14th century. Historical documents including the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea and works by Ibn Battuta describe the society, culture, and economy of the Swahili Coast at various points in its history.
Africa is the world's second-largest and second-most-populous continent. At about 30.2 million km2 (11.7 million sq mi) including adjacent islands, it covers six percent of Earth's total surface area and 20.4 percent of its total land area. With 1.1 billion people as of 2013, it accounts for about 15% of the world's human population. The continent is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, both the Suez Canal and the Red Sea along the Sinai Peninsula to the northeast, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The continent includes Madagascar and various archipelagos. It contains 54 fully recognized sovereign states (countries), nine territories and two de facto independent states with limited or no recognition.
Africa's population is the youngest amongst all the continents; the median age in 2012 was 19.7, when the worldwide median age was 30.4.Algeria is Africa's largest country by area, and Nigeria by population. Africa, particularly central Eastern Africa, is widely accepted as the place of origin of humans and the Hominidae clade (great apes), as evidenced by the discovery of the earliest hominids and their ancestors, as well as later ones that have been dated to around seven million years ago, including Sahelanthropus tchadensis, Australopithecus africanus, A. afarensis, Homo erectus, H. habilis and H. ergaster – with the earliest Homo sapiens (modern human) found in Ethiopia being dated to circa 200,000 years ago. Africa straddles the equator and encompasses numerous climate areas; it is the only continent to stretch from the northern temperate to southern temperate zones.
With declining growth in most of Sub-Saharan Africa, the East African region has continued to post impressive expansion of between 5 and 8 per cent in the recent past. However, the various economies will have to contend with various challenges this year to keep up the growth trajectory. CNBC Africa's Charles Gitonga spoke to Ken Gichinga, Chief Economist and Managing Director at Mentoria Consulting.
This mini-doc explores the implementation of the One Stop Border Post at two border points between Kenya and Tanzania (Namanga and Taveta/Holili). Several interviews have been conducted. Trade facilitation is at the forefront of the East African Community (EAC), this video follows those efforts.
In which John Green teaches you about Sub-Saharan Africa! So, what exactly was going on there? It turns out, it was a lot of trade, converting to Islam, visits from Ibn Battuta, trade, beautiful women, trade, some impressive architecture, and several empires. John not only cover the the West African Malian Empire, which is the one Mansa Musa ruled, but he discusses the Ghana Empire, and even gets over to East Africa as well to discuss the trade-based city-states of Mogadishu, Mombasa, and Zanzibar. In addition to all this, John considers emigrating to Canada. (www.abndigital.com) Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda have outlined plans to increase spending on roads and power plants as they struggle to maintain economic growth that has been damped by rising fuel and food costs. Budget plans for the year through June 2012 showed the investment will stymie attempts by Kenya and Uganda to narrow the fiscal deficit. With an analysis of those figures that came out yesterday, ABN speaks with Jim McFie, Research Director at Strathmore University.

The military campaign in German East Africa during World War 1 went on longer than the whole war and thanks to Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck and his guerilla warfare is now infamous among the theatres of the great war. But what was the history behind German East Africa and was it really a gentleman's war and what role did the Askari play in it? » HOW CAN I SUPPORT YOUR CHANNEL? The East African Community's is one step closer to making trade among the 5 member states much, much easier. [TAKE VO]This is so after the passage of the One Stop Border Posts Bill. Approval of the law by the East African Legislative Assembly has been delayed since 2010, it now requires assent from the East African Heads of State to come into force. Currently cargo in transit from one member of the East African Community to another has to be inspected twice, on each side of the border. If implemented, the law will end this duplication, by making just one inspection mandatory. There are 8 border crossing points designated in the EAC as One Stop Border Posts

Link to full text: http://bit.ly/SR1111 Good Morning, I’m still reporting on the invasion. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is rapidly becoming one of the leading figures in what he has termed New Europe. The more I see of Orban, the more I like him. Orban defines New Europe as those nations in Central and Eastern Europe who were formerly under the grip of the Soviet Union in 1989-1990. Hungary declared its independence on Oct. 23, 1989. These nations have been trying to rebuild their economies after 50 years of destruction under state socialism. Consequently, New Europe has been more open to new ideas - of necessity - whereas, the core members of the European Union, Germany, France, Italy, etc., are considered to be Old Europe, and are still – whether they acknowledge it or not – ...
"Lemuria" entered the lexicon through the works of Helena Blavatsky, who claimed that the Mahatmas had shown her an ancient, pre-Atlantean Book of Dzyan...Within Blavatsky's complex cosmology, which includes seven "Root Races", the "Third Root Race" occupied Lemuria. She describes them as about 7 feet (2.1 m) tall, sexually hermaphroditic, egg-laying, mentally undeveloped and spiritually more pure than the following "Root Races". Before the coming of the Lemurians, the second "Root Race" is said to have dwelled in Hyperborea. After the subsequent creation of mammals, Mme Blavatsky revealed to her readers, some Lemurians turned to bestiality. The gods, aghast at the behavior of these "mindless" men, sank Lemuria into the ocean and created a "Fourth Root Race" – endowed with intellect – on A...

No show yesterday due to labor day Dr. Duke described the invasion of Europe by "migrants" from the Middle East and Africa. He posted a video that shows men from Syria rioting on the Greek island of Lesbos. He had Andrew Anglin of the Daily Stormer as his guest for the hour. They had a far-reaching discussion, from the immigration crisis to Zionist media brainwashing. Mr. Anglin discussed the uses of social media including Facebook and Twitter as well as the comment sections of traditional websites for propagating the truths that will inevitably wake up our people to the existential threat that they are under. This is a fun and informative show that you will not want to miss. Please share it widely. mp3 available at: http://www.renseradioarchives.com/dduke/ Most videos on the Andy Add...

Population trends are creating an unbalanced world; current social institutions for local and global governance, and for international alliances, risk becoming obsolete. To respond to the global population balances of 2030, reform of local and global governance institutions – including NATO, the World Bank and IMF, and local regimes in Africa and the Middle East – are vital. Otherwise, the North American/European leadership that has provided stability and security in the post-WWII era will break down, with no effective alternatives to replace it.
Under détente the superpowers continued their rivalry, but carefully avoided direct conflict by courting allies in the developing world. Israel moved closer to the United States after the Six Day War, while Egypt erratically maintained its ties with the USSR. During the subsequent Yom Kippur War the United States reluctantly supplied aid to Israel, but when it became apparent the Egyptian Army was on the verge of destruction the Soviet Union threatened to intervene. The United States held its ground, brought the two warring sides to the negotiating table, and demonstrated it was the preeminent power in the Middle East. In Angola the Cuban-backed People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) manages to retain power, staving off attacks from the Central Intelligence Agency-backed Nat...
