‘Keeping it light’

A good humoured, creative campaign to reach even more Australians with God’s word

Australia’s national conversation has become fraught with shallowness and contempt for those who have a differing opinion. From yelling matches on ABC’s Q&A to screed on Twitter, we just don’t seem to be able to talk anymore. And the more important the topic, the less we actually hear each other.

To speak into this, Bible Society Australia has teamed up with Coopers Premium Light to ask Australians to try “Keeping it Light” - a creative campaign to reach even more Australians with God's word - and this time we're doing so in a rather unexpected way.

As part of this partnership Bible Society Australia has accepted a Bicentenary tribute from Coopers Brewery to produce a Bicentenary limited edition Premium Light beer and we’ve also hosted some light discussions on the heaviest topics. Starting with the topic of same-sex marriage.

A Bicentenary birthday tribute from Tim Cooper to Bible Society Australia

As part of this partnership Bible Society Australia has accepted a Bicentenary tribute from Coopers Brewery who have produced 10-thousand cases of limited edition Premium Light beer that feature a happy birthday message to Bible Society from Coopers and Bible verses on the carton packaging.

Each special edition can of the low-alcohol beer will display Bible Society’s Bicentenary logo, while each carton will display different Bible verses.

These cartons have been distributed across Australia through normal retail outlets. Ask your local Coopers retailer to purchase a special edition carton of your own.

Tim Wilson and Andrew Hastie disagree most agreeably

So far, we’ve found that we can hear each other better if we have a bit more of a sense of humour. And if we take the Bible’s teaching: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.” Mind you, a drop of Coopers Premium Light doesn’t hurt either.

The first conversation in the "Keeping it Light" series features a gay, agnostic MP from Victoria and a Christian conservative MP from Western Australia. They disagree powerfully on the topic at hand but, perhaps because there was both a Bible and good beer on the table, found they were able to thoroughly enjoy their profound disagreement.
