Casey Donovan Wins I'm A Celebrity 2017 Australia

Australian singer, theatre actress and author Casey Donovan has been crowned Queen of the Jungle on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! Vision courtesy Network Ten.

Ex-Australian Idol winner Casey Donovan emerged victorious on Monday night, beating fellow celebrities Dane Swan and Natalie Bassingthwaighte for the top prize.

Donovan originally signed onto the show in order to tackle her crippling anxiety. Now 28, she was just 16-years-old when she won Australian Idol.

"I just thought it's time to get it out of my system and face the fear," she previously told Fairfax Media.

Donovan's victory marks the first time a woman has been named queen of the jungle on I'm A Celebrity Australia. Her victory means Channel Ten will donate $100,000 to Starlight Australia, a charity that helps put a smile on the faces of seriously ill children.

Former Collingwood player and Brownlow medalist Dane Swan came runner up.

Swan entered the jungle with few high hopes, describing himself as "unemployed" and "a bum". But he soon found his feet, impressing his fellow contestants in the regular tucker challenges.

Donovan was widely tipped to take home the top prize this season. A string of recently-eliminated contestants nominating her as their the preferred winner, including intruder Carson Kressley.

But an early telecast in New Zealand appeared to have given away the result early via Twitter. That followed shortly after former contestant Nazeem Hussain gave away third place before the official announcement.

He was among the live audience in the jungle, sitting alongside Steve Price when he said: "We're excited to see. They're all worthy, and I'm sad to see Nat come in third because they all should be first. But that's not how it works."

On Monday, comedian Hussain – who finished fourth – said Donovan deserved to win.

"She's such a generous spirit and always made us laugh in the camp," he said. "There were some dark days when everything wasn't going the way we hoped, but Casey's music, her smile and laugh lifted us up. She deserves to take the crown."

Hussain's newfound friend Steve Price was also backing Donovan.

"She's a remarkable young lady," he said. "The music she created as a young teenager, and the fact she was so poised when she won Australian Idol... I think she's about to blossom again."

The announcement came after the three celebrities had to be rescued from their final Tucker Trial.

Casey, Dane and Natalie were warned to move slowly through a cement-like pit of corn starch and water, but instead they got completely stuck in the "cement", and eventually had to be rescued by rangers, safety officials and hosts Julia Morris and Chris Brown.
