Canada's breaking of economic and diplomatic ties with Iran has harmed Iranian-Canadians, the Canadian economy and Canada's international standing. The Conservative leadership candidates should recognize this fact, and not repeat the same old policies which not only harmed Canada, but also led to their electoral defeat in ridings with large numbers of Iranian-Canadians in the last federal election. It is important for all of Canada's political parties to squarely place themselves on the side of international peace and dialogue, rather than espousing isolationist and isolating rhetoric.
TD, for those who may have missed it, has been the subject of a series of CBC stories in which "hundreds" of employees and former employees allege they were being pressured to "squeeze" customers to improve the bank's revenues and profitability.
Hey there, guy from the BBC viral video from last week. I know, you must feel completely mortified as the entire world found out that you were more than just an expert on South Korea. GASP! You're a father, too! Working from home, or doing a job that requires a lot of your work to happen in your home, is rough when you have kids.
At its core, antibiotic resistance is merely a coping mechanism. Bacteria are faced with a rather dire form of stress and need to find a way to cope. They can take the biological route of genetic mutation to render the drug useless. They also can gain a plasmid from the environment or another bacterium, to gain resistance mechanisms.
Because of you, these town halls were a tremendous success. We shared frank conversations and emotional moments. But everywhere I went, I heard directly from you: about what concerns you the most, what you think we're doing right and what you think we can do better.
After her assault, the police officer handling Sarah's case invited her to a meeting. A CSIS agent was there. Would she be willing to go undercover, inside a hate group, using her fiancé's connections to get information? There would be no pay. No police protection. Still, Sarah volunteered.
Madagascar is famous for its unique wildlife, the cartoon movies that bear its name, and for vanilla. There is also another aspect that sets Madagascar apart: over half of its 22 million inhabitants don't have access to safe drinking water, and 90 per cent don't have access to proper sanitation or a toilet.
After a crushing defeat in 2015, the Conservatives sought to find a leader who could do what Stephen Harper could not; bring new voters especially millennials to the party, appeal to minorities and immigrants, and present a more moderate platform than the one Harper employed for his campaign.
The NDP is seen to be the one with the toughest hill to climb. The party faithful believes that the NDP lost ground because it allowed itself to be outmanoeuvred by the Liberal Party -- on the left. The leadership contest is an opportunity to see which of the candidates are seriously listening to the expressed desire of the rank and file to move the party to the left.
Last year, Canada took in some 39,000 Syrian refugees and Canadian cities from coast to coast have made great efforts to help them adapt and assimilate. The U.S., on the other hand, let in a grand total of roughly 13,000 refugees, an embarrassing number given our population is only a tenth of theirs.
If you have a hard time suppressing your yawns, in spite of your excitement for longer days and warmer weather, then feast your eyes on these coffee-infused recipes to help you stay awake.
"Famine" is a word that's rarely and cautiously used by the international aid community. It's reserved for describing the very gravest of human suffering. For the U.N. to declare "famine," a great many people must be dying of starvation. Hunger, even lots of it, isn't enough for an official declaration.
Are the BC NDP full of crap? Yeah, sort of, they are. They've gone bananas about the fact that Elections BC is asking the governing party about fundraising stuff. What they're not telling anyone is that they're being asked, too. And John Horgan's crew aren't enthusiastic about anyone probing BC NDP fundraising practices. There's a history, you see.
It is outrageous enough that wealthy clients got off with a slight reprimand. KPMG has, so far, paid no price for their role. The committee let Canadians down by not recommending a full investigation into this case and laying charges against KPMG if the evidence warrants it. And Canadians are right to keep demanding one.
Parents, in particular, often feel hardest-hit by the daylight saving time-shift -- when there are more hours of daylight and fewer hours of dusk and dark -- and children simply refuse to stick with their bedtime routine. Here are five tips that can save your family from daylight-saving-time disaster.
I've heard a lot of buzz lately about fermented foods. I know fermented foods are good for our gut health and that we should eat more fermented foods like kefir, kimchi and sauerkraut. But I'd never once given any thought to how fermented foods could benefit my kids. I never even thought to have them try it.
Apparently the government agency had major concerns about seasoned Métis actor Tom Jackson's character when they found out he was indigenous. The agency said it has the right to refuse applications that don't fit its mandate. But what the heck is wrong with Jackson playing a mafia boss? Parks Canada should consider that the message they send with this move is that indigenous people don't get to play the villain, or that they can't appear in potentially corny movies just like everyone else.
On Monday March 6, 2017 you deported Len Van Heest, a Canadian for the last 59 years. Yes, a Canadian but without the citizenship papers. He has several convictions for assault, mischief and uttering threats -- all stemming from and related to his mental illness, the bipolar disorder.
Justin Trudeau is perpetuating a myth about the middle class. In reality, it has devolved into a new working class that is both white collar and blue collar - a world defined by massive levels of student debt, sky-high housing prices and the perpetual cycle of short-term contract work without benefits.
Transgender, gender nonconforming and intersex people are not sexual deviants. The rest of the population does not need protection from them. This line of thinking creates unnecessary fear at the thought of encountering a transgender or gender nonconforming person in a public restroom.
The government can no longer cling to the falsehood that loud, angry doctors are just tiny splinter group, trying to whip up trouble in name of a bigger pay cheque. The majority of doctors are unhappy with this government and unhappy with the direction of health care.
Human trafficking can be found in metropolitan areas across Canada. It is never too late or too early for a parent to begin the discussion. Hesitating only allows the situation to become more entrenched if your child is attaching herself to the life provided by a pimp.
I often hear people say that their partner's affair or request for separation came "out of the blue" and that they had "no clue" their partner was that unhappy. Yet when the situation stabilizes a bit and they're able to look back with the clarity of hindsight, they usually admit that there were little cracks beginning to show.
