Unearthing Indigenous heritage

AIATSIS Collections Officer Rob Williams has enjoyed Aboriginal archaeology since he was a kid, something that spurred him to later study and work in the field.

In this interview Rob talks about the Indigenous heritage of Canberra, including that of the AIATSIS building, and his recent involvement with the Springbank Archaeology Project.

"I would definitely say to the younger people – get involved in your heritage, whether it’s non-indigenous archaeology or heritage, or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander archaeology. Maybe pick up a book and read about it, or go out for a walk. There are plenty of great heritage and cultural sites around Canberra, and around Australia that are really in people’s backyards. Just have a look, get out there and experience some of it."
